http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/7/7/1546094/-Fox-News-CEO-in-deep-trouble-lawyer-claims-he-demanded-oral-sex-from-girls-as-young-as-16-years-olBased on what Carlsons camp is saying, it appears her lawsuit could unleash a torrent of new allegations from other women. Hes the Bill Cosby of media, Carlsons lawyer, Nancy Erika Smith, told me today. My office is being deluged with calls and website contacts from women. I dont even have a count anymore Women as young as 16 who said he demanded oral sex. Another said during an interview that he said, Take off your bra. She was devastated. Smith told me shes forwarding the names of women who agreed to be interviewed to journalists. The New York Times currently has multiple reporters working on the story.
So far, no women have gone on the record. But Carlson isnt the first to publicly challenge the Fox chief. In my 2014 biography of Ailes, I reported three incidents where Ailes made inappropriate sexual comments at women in professional settings. One of the women, Randi Harrison, said that when she interviewed for a producing job at NBC in the early '80s, Ailes said hed increase her salary by $100 a week in exchange for sex. After the incident, Ailess friend John Huddy tracked Harrison down and asked her at a bar if she was wearing a wire.
According to CNN, Carlson and her attorney want to get Ailes under oath and plan to call at least one other Fox News employee to testify:

(82,849 posts)Start lining up the attorneys who would love a chance to take Ailes' deposition in a civil case. Bidding begins at $100,000.

(9,895 posts)They will throw a pile of money at this, put a gag order on the settlement and it all goes away. Scumbags like that ALWAYS buy "justice" in our fucked up system.
Sad but true.

(82,849 posts)But since this is a civil case, that's a tougher sell. There are all kinds of questions that can be posed to Mr. Ailes that don't have a criminal component to them that he would rather not answer. Also, it's hard to negotiate a fair settlement without some discovery, including exchange of documents and the taking of the parties' depositions.
I suppose Ailes' attorneys will move that the records be exchanged under seal or subject to a protective order, but the judge may not be inclined to grant that motion. Which would be just too, too sad for Mr. Ailes.
Moostache
(9,895 posts)But I bet it will be stunning just how much his memory of specific details will fade in the depositions, criminal or not.
That scumbag will pull out the Reagan style "Well, I don't recall".
Either way, he is human filth incarnate for certain, so perjury is probably no more serious to him than a hang nail...
Hope the judge in the case allows for a fair discovery and pretrial process though.

SOOOOO loving this!!! I hope he's SOOOOOO screwed!
What that bastard has done to information brokering and curating - the shit that he has mainstreamed, the partisan "news" bullshit he's peddled and organized and produced and massaged and twisted and tarted up and shoved down gullible viewers' throats from coast to coast, how he's perverted the national discourse, poisoned the American mindset, dumbed us all down, and played to our lowest, cheesiest, basest, stupidest, pie-in-the-sky-loving reality-defying and negating instincts. He's done nothing but foster and encourage STUPIDITY from sea to shining sea.
The low-information voter, the paranoiac, the lowlife, the predator, the conspiracy theorist, the hater, the racist, the sexist, the liar, the cheat, the folks and the trends that developed to make someone like Donald Trump possible - it ALL traces back to him. He is the seed - AND the soil - from which the poison plant sprouted. He is the stork that delivered the New Century Ugly American, and his results are in FULL FLOWER now. He's given aid and comfort - TONS of earthly comfort - and fame and fortune and glory and a safe haven and an echo chamber to the stupidest, nastiest shit-stirrers like bill o'reilly and that guy whose name rhymes with Vanity, and sarah palin, and oliver north, AND a parade of decorative bimbos to force-feed to us. He is a curse upon us all. He has slanted the news so far that it's fallen over on its collective face and become a complete and totally biased sham. He has RUINED broadcast journalism. Turned it into a shrieking whore house with bright colored lights and bursts, and bells dong'ing, and sexy graphics and rousing music to get the hormones cranking, and wall-to-wall empty-headed long-legged blondes for side dishes, shilling half-truths and rumor-mongering and character assassination and outright LIES that are peddled for truth. All those raving lunatics like the crazy uncle who you usually kept sequestered in your attic and only allowed out for Thanksgiving dinner with the extended family have been installed in the spotlights on center stage, given phony respectability, showered with money and fame, and made into stars. And flushed the American intellect, objectivity, and discernment straight down the crapper.
I hope he eats shit. Scheming manipulative partisan son-of-Beelzebub. All those nasty Scottish slurs and putdowns that showered down upon the head of The Donald? Times A MILLION for roger ailes. He IS the original sin. He IS the toxic primordial sludge that gave us such monsters as bush/cheney, and more.
To borrow a line from that obnoxious Joanie Ernst campaign commercial - I'd LOVE-LOVE-LOVE to see this "make him squeal!"

From Nixon to Trump he's pimped the most disgusting right wing candidates tropes imaginable. (4,213 posts)First, I am glad because these women will hopefully finally be able to get justice.
Second, I am glad because I am hoping this will rip Fox News apart. Ailes is allegedly the mastermind behind Fox. My hope is that if he goes down, he'll take a big chunk of Fox with him. Even if he doesn't, it remains my hope that without him at the helm Fox suffers and begins to lose some of its influence and power.

(11,560 posts)Truthfully, this hasn't changed my opinion of him as much as one might think. I have long thought he was a vile, grasping, horrid human being that was bringing nothing but misery to almost everyone and everything sentient and willing to go to any lengths to achieve that. Anyone that would buy into the world of Ailes and Murdoch? I try not to think about them.
Believe me, I WELL know just how awful this is, but consider the source, so to speak. Were you as surprised by this as your were by the Bill Cosby mess? What else was a person such as Ailes to do to try to set the bar any lower? My Awfulness Quotient has been pretty much exhausted by Faux Noise for a long time now.

Roger Ailes Accused Of Sexism In The Workplace? The Record Is Long.
Gretchen Carlson is not the first to speak out against the Fox News chief.

Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes has a well-recorded history of facing sexual assault allegations.
Long before Gretchen Carlson filed her incendiary lawsuit against Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes, plenty of women had come forward with their own memories of his sexism and sexual harassment.
The former Fox & Friends co-host alleges that Ailes fired her for rejecting a sexual relationship with him. Similar stories echo through Gabriel Shermans 2014 biography of the media magnate, titled The Loudest Voice in the Room.
When television producer Randi Harrison interviewed with Ailes for a job at NBC in the 1980s, she said he offered her an extra hundred dollars a week if she agreed to have sex with him whenever he wanted, according to Sherman.
Gabriel Sherman
Ailes, then president of CNBC, also reportedly made a pass at producer Shelley Ross while interviewing her for a job. She accepted the position after he apologized. Ailes later called her a militant feminist when asked about the interview.

(6,342 posts)There is a lot of rumors of other women. But so far, she's the only one. Gretchen's lawyer claims there is a flood of women, yet none are actually coming forward. None have been added to the suit.
Instead, you got some women on FOX (such as Greta) defending Ailes.

(6,342 posts)Ailes may be a sexist pig. But nothing is going to happen to him (legally) unless legal action is taken by someone recently. One woman finally did, but a judge isn't going to pay much attention to these other cases, many which are beyond the statue of limitations anyway.
It was the same problem with Bill Cosby.
It's looking likely that Ailes may be out of a job. The Murdoch boys have been wanting him out for awhile. But will he care? He's old and rich.

(146,262 posts)Truly. This kind of thing is everywhere. Many women can tell the story of it happening in their lives.
Sexual harassment by employers and managers is so common that people have become used to it and don't go public with it when it happens. I've heard such stories from many of the women in my own life.
