Edited...because this barrage won't end until I explain my post...duh!
I do not mean all lives are equal. Obviously white lives are more important than POC in this country. So my point was that now that police are saying Blue lives matter...maybe NOW they get that all lives matter (meaning black lives matter as much as theirs do).
No...I'm not trying to say Black lives Don't matter. I was trying to stress that they do.
Forgive me for trying satire in a situation that couldn't handle it.
I fucked up. I should have known better.

(8,175 posts)But I do think all lives matter. It's just that the lives being killed most often need the most attention. And that is POC.
And this killing was just a very tragic and inappropriate statement about that. I understand why this guy did what he did, even if I can't condone more killing in defense of killing innocent POC. I was so enraged about these last two killings...like this is NEVER going to stop! But I understand why he was so enraged.
There is a reason for the statement BLM...but it shouldn't even be necessary...Unfortunately, it is, because black lives are not regarded with the same respect as whites.
So maybe now that the police have tried to push "blue lives matter"...maybe...just maybe now they realize that BLM...and that they have to think "all lives matter" or they aren't doing their jobs right. The lives of the police are no more important than the lives of the innocent people they are killing. And I'm not judging all of their shootings as murder. But some of them really are.

(65,616 posts)matter. The reason we don't say it is because the RWing stole the idea and made it their rallying cry.
It would be silly to pretend DUers don't think all lives matter - we just get pissed that the source is a nutball(s) that is trying to divide up the country.

(35,270 posts)It's from a song written in 1948, recorded in 1950.
On the other hand, it's a motif in the New Testament, and I can't imagine that for hundreds of years preachers talked about "I shall overcome," "he shall overcome," "they shall overcome," "the church shall overcome," "humanity shall overcome," "Christians shall overcome," etc., etc, without once saying "we shall overcome."
Nor, do I suspect, when the ministers in my old church said "we shall overcome" they were quoting the activist song.
Same for "all lives matter." We can quote the most prominent source we know of, we can quote the most hated source we know of, but when the BLM activist yesterday said "all lives matter" he wasn't quoting Beck. He was speaking English.

(28,313 posts)BLM was working with the police for this peaceful rally, as they have done so many times before.
The murder of these officers, this tragedy should not be used to delegitimize BLM.

(8,175 posts)My point being that the police apparently feel that blue lives matter as much as black lives...yet they don't die at nearly the same rate.

(8,175 posts)they don't even bother to read and try to understand a message.
given the context...that the police are trying to say blue lives matter...don't you think that kind of puts a twist on things?
Except, I agree with you. I was being sarcastic but it didn't come across well. I thought my views on BLM were well enough established here. I guess not.

I was not trying to deny that BLM. Not my point at all.

(37,549 posts)disagreeing with you on this thread lack the capacity to understand you.
We understand. We disagree.
You seem to think you are entitled to consideration of your very special arguments regarding race.
No.

(8,175 posts)Jesus...some of you are so quick to label and hate someone. Is it my avatar?
I was actually agreeing with BLM, but you were too eager to hate me to even see that.
As a matter of fact, I think I get it. I'm going to be under attack here as long as I have a Bernie avatar...right? Am I right?
msanthrope
(37,549 posts)I don't care to read your views on race.
passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)Since you obviously have no idea of my views on race.
But...it's fine if that's the way you want to approach life. Don't let me disturb you.

(8,175 posts)I never will support Trump. Hell, I'd even vote for Hillary to prevent him from winning.
The fact that I don't label him as evil as you do does not mean I support him.
I personally don't know who or what he is except a clown who wants attention and money.
Politically he is an unknown, as up till now he's just been playing the crowds. He does not mean most of what he says and if you think he does, then you are naive.
But if that means I support him, and that makes me racist...then you, my dear, have no idea what racist means.
But...from your profile, I can see that you have a real hate-on for Bernie, so you've just proved a point I've been pondering. People here who display a Bernie avatar are now under attack. I was kind of suspecting that. Now I know for sure.

(502 posts)In fact, such a statement is probably as purest a distillation of incontrovertible moral truth as ever a prophet, philosopher or psychologist could utter.
But because of the long, oftentimes savage history of systemic racism in these "united states"--a still unfolding history, BTW, in which white authority figures have oftentimes behaved as if black lives don't matter--it needs to be explicitly stated: Black lives matter.
In this context decent, intelligent people of empathetic discernment and clear-eyed vision understand: shouting "All lives matter!" is the new "White power!" battle cry of the unreconstructed 21st-century bigot.

(8,175 posts)Would everyone please get a grip and read the damn thread.
I was fucking agreeing with BLM. I was being sarcastic. The police claimed Blue Lives Matter so my response was...yeah, well all lives matter.
I was saying that not just Blue lives matter.
Now...please go back to your preconceived ideas and get on with your life.
BTW, I'm NOT a Bernie Bro. Like a lot of other older progressive women on this site, I supported Sanders. It has nothing to do with my feelings about POC. I've always supported POC.

(2,120 posts)As you have seen in all the replies to you, it is true all lives matter, but you can't say it. Because, ....... well, ....... Because.
passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)Because I was not trying to say all lives matter equally...because they don't, and probably never will.
awoke_in_2003
(34,582 posts)Because "all lives matter" was started to try to minimize what BLM has been trying to say. African Americans are beaten and killed by police far too often, such that it appears that some in our country don't believe that black lives matter.
