Trump’s Alma Mater Just Wrote Him A Letter: Go F*** Yourself

http://newcenturytimes.com/2016/07/09/trumps-alma-mater-just-wrote-him-a-letter-go-f-yourself/

At the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, students are taught to represent the highest levels of respect and integrity. We are taught to embrace humility and diversity. We can understand why, in seeking America’s highest office, you have used your degree from Wharton to promote and lend legitimacy to your candidacy.

As a candidate for President, and now as the presumptive GOP nominee, you have been afforded a transformative opportunity to be a leader on national and international stages and to make the Wharton community even prouder of our school and values.

However, we have been deeply disappointed in your candidacy.

We, proud students, alumni, and faculty of Wharton, are outraged that an affiliation with our school is being used to legitimize prejudice and intolerance. Although we do not aim to make any political endorsements with this letter, we do express our unequivocal stance against the xenophobia, sexism, racism, and other forms of bigotry that you have actively and implicitly endorsed in your campaign.

Trump (2000):

"I went to the Wharton School of Finance, which is the No. 1 school. I'm intelligent. Some people would say I'm very, very, very intelligent."

And too many people throw around the word "lie". At most, even accepting your premise, the OP is not a "lie" but is a misuse of terminology as to what Alma Mater means; but that requires accepting your premise which is debatable at best.

In fact, Trump's Alma Mater boasts of its connection to him in its online alumni magazine.

I am not accusing the person who posted it of lying, I am saying the post itself is a lie (i.e. the content).

One ought not to post things that aren't true, in my opinion.

Someone (as you suggest) may say something false, but with no intent to mislead the hearer. This is not a lie.

Someone may say something truthful, with the intent to create a false impression. This is a lie.

In this case, the letter clearly states:

This letter reflects the personal views of its signatories only and is not affiliated with the Wharton School. The Wharton School takes no political position and does not comment on its students, alumni, or faculty.

In this case, an untrue statement has been made, with the intent to create a false impression. It is therefore a lie.

I know, I know, don't lower oneself to Don the Con's standards and I agree. The source quoted in the OP mischaracterized the source of the letter and, in order to maintain the ability to effectively criticize Repugs for doing similar, we must be vigilant in not following suit.

Still, it's a pretty sound rebuke, continuing a trend reported earlier this year in USA Today:
Within Penn’s College Republicans club, only a “small minority” of members are sympathetic to his bid, according to club President Jennifer Knesbach, a junior who studies finance at Wharton. The other members, Knesbach says, worry his candidacy could negatively affect how Republicans are perceived at the school.

because you are so special!

And, by the way, you buy one of these directories and get in touch with all the other alums who are just DYING to hear from you! And oh, yes, also by the way, we'll be selling or trading your personal information.

Isn't this great?!"

Yes, I actually did get such a bullshit letter from my alma mater (A state school, to boot! Your tax dollars at work!!) a few years ago. It took a few tries, but I finally got them to agree to leave me out of this stupid directory, and they did eventually quit contacting me. Who knows what they did with my name and address -- probably as much as they could get away with legally.

Actually, though, I get very little junk mail any more. I've opted out of pre-approved credit card offers and other direct marketing, plus our household is clearly a waste of time and money for marketers: we don't spend recklessly, aren't in debt and don't want to be, and there are so few transactions to track that we haven't left much of a profile for the vultures to work from.

There are some fine institutions that offer comparable educations in other fields that ARE state university schools.. But EVEN Wharton can have alumni that are dumbass assholes. But, after all is said and done, it is what one puts into their studies and efforts after they leave school that matter most IMHO.

I'm the only one on this board of whom I am aware that graduated from Wharton, and I've asked around. I made it known the day I was finally able to post in the "Welcome" section of this site.

You have the everyday colleges. Step up and you have the Stanford's and the Duke's. Step up again and you have the Ivy League's and the MIT's and Cal Tech's. Then take one final larger than life step up and you have Wharton.

We are a cut above the rest.

These individuals who wrote this speak for themselves only, not Wharton. You'd have to be a complete fool to believe individuals who are not spokespersons for the school can somehow speak on behalf of Wharton as a college or that of all its alum and current students, and they worded in a way that makes that easy to determine.
