Police Lives Matter

I have seen that meme on FB today. It is so tempting to tell them "all lives matter."

1. You shoot a police officer, you go to prison (assuming you live long enough.)

A police officer shoots a black person, no one goes to prison.

In fact, no white people generally face consequences for shooting black people. Occasionally, but it seems to be the exception rather than the rule. It's like rape - there are seldom consequences. It's just this side of legal.

3. there are lots of black men in prison for killing other black men

whether they are guilty is another question.

4. You're right - I need to edit

It's almost legal for white people to shoot black people. I will edit my post - thanks for the correction.

5. That did used to be the case. Misdemeanor murders they were mockingly called.

Things have changef. There is a private prison industry to fed now.

6. I don't think things have changed nearly as much for white people as POC

The prison industry is largely fed with people of color.

8. That is what I am saying. If someone shoots black man

a black man usually goes to prison for it. Whether he is just a usual suspect or truly guilty would be my concern in many cases.

7. I still don't understand why they didn't just put him on paid administrative leave.

Isn't that the standard procedure for racially motivated murders?

9. Such utter total bullshit. People can choose to be a police officer. To be black? Not

so much.

WTF???

Talk about your false equivalence.

10. More than the citizenry

from what I can tell since every time I turn on the TV I am told how wonderful they are and why their deaths are so much worse than anyone else's.

Why, it's almost as if their lives matter *more* than everybody else's.

11. "Police" is a mechanism by which society maintains its monoploy on violense.

It is a status not a life.

17. As no holidays are above the other, 'Happy 4th of July' is also exclusionary to Christmas

As 319 million people share my date of birth (as we all share that average number), it would be exclusive and intolerant of my family and friends to wish me a happy birthday. None are above any others.

As no holidays are above the other, 'Happy 4th of July' is also exclusionary to Christmas and Memorial Day. None are above any others.

23. Actually there is already almost an EXACT equivalent to that...

Many people, especially it seems in America, seem to regard saying 'Happy Holidays' or 'Season's Greetings' or mentioning any other holiday than Christmas in December as constituting a 'War on Christmas'! Yet I suspect that many of the same people choose to consider that 'Black Lives Matter' means that other lives don't.

15. In the case of All Lives Matter

as a response to Black Lives Matter - it is so fucking disingenuous - the problem is that for far too long, black lives have mattered less than everyone else's on the societal level.

I wish people would start saying Black Lives Matter, Too - but too many people are too god damned stupid to get it. The ones who aren't too stupid to get it and still don't get it are straight up racist - no excuses.

16. And they only care when white cops get shot by blacks

They don't care when a white person shoots a cop or when a black cop does.

They are being gunned down like crazy right now. I hope it stops yesterday. Heartbroken for friends and families.

in one way or another?
