But I was kind of surprised that she made the comments she did.

Making comments while ruling on a case, even a wrongly decided case, is one thing. Making partisan political comments of the type she made is completely different, IMO.

As I said, not a big deal to me personally, but I don't recall it happening before.

Supreme Court is a-political. Yes, we know that the court has often been egregiously political (as in Bush v. Gore). But to express this this way is to indicate that she no longer thinks it's an important principle.

Fictions are fictions, but for people in significant positions to say they no longer respect the fiction that their own position is based on, is to contribute to the process of simply dismantling the entire structure.

We seem to have cartoon characters running our country and trying to get elected. Her commenting on the absurd tenor of how things are operating is just kind of proof of that fact. Heck, she probably even considers what she has to at her employment strange compared to years before
