"I was shocked, disappointed, offended. I was insulted," the man, who was 14 at the time. told lawyers for Pennsylvania State University's insurer in a deposition two years ago. "I was embarrassed."
The man later became one of dozens of Sandusky accusers paid millions by Pennsylvania State University. His testimony was released as part of a trove of records unsealed in an ongoing legal fight with its insurer over who should cover the costs of the millions of dollars Penn State has paid to end claims tied to Sandusky.
The documents include excerpts of depositions from accusers who say they reported abuse to Paterno or members of his staff in the 1970s and 80s. That's far before 1998, the point that an independent investigation had established as the earliest date Penn State's iconic coach and other school officials knew or should have known about reports to police that Sandusky had sexually abused a child.

(62,406 posts)Not surprised by Paterno. Told my parents about abuse by a priest and they immediately defended the priest. Never felt so abandonded.

(29,503 posts)I watched an installment of the show, "POV", on PBS last night - "Pervert Park" about a Florida trailer park/halfway house for sex offenders. It was infuriating and riveting at the same time, and some of the offenders profiled by the documentary's producers gave personal background testimony about being sexually abused as children, and when they told their parents, they were punished - so disturbing.

(53,764 posts)All he had to do was fire him in the 70s and get on with coaching his team.
He knew it was going on all that time and did nothing. Wonder what Sandusky had on him?
Now Penn State is paying out millions, or rather their insurance company is.
With these revelation coming out though, Paterno's family might get sued now.

about who people.
Paterno was told about Sandusky and still let him take a little boy with him on
a bowl trip.

(135,823 posts)The man identified as John Doe 150 said in 2014 that other boys in a shower heard him yell that Sandusky had just touched him sexually. The man said he told several adults about it, then sought out Paterno.
"Is it accurate that Coach Paterno quickly said to you, I don't want to hear about any of that kind of stuff, I have a football season to worry about?" a lawyer for Penn State's insurance carrier asked the man. "Specifically, yes," the man replied.
"I was shocked, disappointed, offended, I was insulted," John Doe 150 testified. "I said, is that all you're going to do? You're not going to do anything else?"
He said Paterno then "just walked away."
