(1,592 posts)at Washington National Cathedral, right after Katrina. I was about eight feet from him. If he had ever been the man or the President that he seemed to be in that speech, I would've followed him anywhere.
Sadly, he was neither.

(18,402 posts)And if we try to have a new heart, and truly listen to each other, as President Obama cautioned each of us to do, we wouldn't be afraid to say that former President Bush rose to the occasion with words that were worthy of our attention.
In times like these, we need to take off the blinders of our political preconceptions and respect and listen to each other. All I've seen on this board so far are jokes about Bush's swaying to the Battlehymn of the Republic, and next to nothing about President Obama's complex and heartfelt speech.
Are we interested in nothing but the political trivialities of the moment?
But with a big "but" in there. In my eyes he is a war criminal along with Cheney. Maybe even moreso Cheney.

(3,569 posts)His war allowed the military to train the Dallas shooter.
His Daddy, illegally selling illegal weapons to the Contras in trade for cocaine, crippled the black community for a generation by creating crack cocaine then flooding minority neighborhoods with it.
His Daddy, in a famous speech calling that same crack cocaine the most dangerous thing facing this country, propagandized crack so that penalties were higher than regular cocaine (like the cocaine his dim witted son used at the time) thereby creating the situation we are faced with today.
Fuck that fucking fuck.
