After about 5 years on debate politics I was banned. So were a lot of long time members. The moderators think they are demigods.

(29,414 posts)I have banned members of DU from a group. And it's usually a difficult decision. Unless they're being unabashed assholes. Then it's easy

(38,958 posts)I have trashed several forums/groups here and done some serious word filtering and my experience improved dramatically. I have also expanded the websites from which I gather news as opposed to relying upon just one site. I have found that to likewise mean I spend much less time in one place and doing so reduces my chances of getting into heated exchanges that in the end change no one's points of view and just raise my blood pressure. Most of what is posted is simply one opinion vs another and frankly, Life is too short......

(16,835 posts)I don't comment nearly as often as I used to, so there's much less chance that I've pissed anyone off. We all have our asshole moments, so I don't think it's fair to ban people frequently.

(20,176 posts)Even better, I was banned from a discussion-board I never even visited...and only know I was banned because the forum owner emailed me to tell me so.
I'd been a prolific poster on a Red Sox discussion board in college that was failing and had been invaded by trolls, one of whom doxxed me and in response I threatened to punch him in the face repeatedly if he showed up at my home. So I got banned. Ultimately the board failed and most of the posters moved to a new invite-only message-board started by another one of the more-prolific posters (which is now one of the better Red Sox boards around) who I had been unfriendly rivals with for years.
It may have been invite-only and any poster had the right to extend invites, but the admin there personally emailed me to tell me that if I was invited and joined, he'd ban me immediately and that he'd already blacklisted my email address and IP.
