It's just possible that Trump will not be nominated. Most Republicans are pricks to begin with, but that doesn't mean they're as stupid as the people who vote for them. They understand that Trump will probably get crushed in a national election
It's just possible that some faction at the convention will win out and the GOP will end up with someone more electable than Trump the Insane.
Were this to happen, Trump would probably run a third party candidacy to fuck them.
Either way is fine with me. We won't end up with a madman in the White House.
On the other hand, it won't be good for us. I believe Hillary can bury Trump beneath a double digit victory. I'm not so confident that she can do so against a more sane Republican.

(23,156 posts)If the Republicans throw Trump aside and nominate a more reasonable, more moderate candidate, that candidate might well pull a lot of votes from those who aren't all that crazy about Clinton, but would prefer her to Trump. Now they'd have someone they could vote for in good conscience.
Of course, if Trump does run third party, that would definitely split the erstwhile Republican vote and pretty much guarantee her victory.

I do think if Trump is smart, his only option is Pence for the "at least one of us is not crazy" benefit, weak as that is.
The way I look at it, Trumps other option have killer drawbacks:
Christie=two out and out bullies on the ballot
Gingrich=a "six wives" ticket (some of the ex-wives may be writing their expose books already and pitching them to publishers - heh). And say what you will, Bill and Hill are still married...

(31,849 posts)HRC might not be as well positioned against a more sane republican, she'd remain well position in your scenario BECAUSE, even if trump didn't do a 3rd party run, his "fans" would be outraged to the put of staying home.

(4,673 posts)crazy, but not crazy enough to think he would win, and the man does not want to spend the $$ it would take to do it. He's way too cheap. And not liquid enough in any case.

(15,031 posts)And if he goes for a 3rd party run, there's no question but that he can find enough fools to pay for it.
Does anyone really believe that Trump has spent a single dollar of his own so far. This side show has been just been one more way for him to profit. Many "events" have been held on his own properties and he charges big bucks to use those facilities.
Donald Trump might just be the first presidential candidate to profit from a losing run.

(4,673 posts)wondering how it will end up - if it will help or tarnish. Since I'm incapable of understanding the current Trump phenomenon, I'm unable even to speculate.

could get a lot of votes. It worked for Runny RayGun and for Dumbya.
