Oregon Man Accused of Threatening Black Man, Using Racial Slurs

A Lane County man is accused of threatening a black man and using racial slurs, and is now being charged with intimidation.

Deputies said four men in two vehicles approached the victim at his home on Jackson Marlow Road in rural Eugene late last month. One of the vehicles reportedly had a Confederate flag attached to it.

The victim said Rodney Blomberg told him he wasn’t welcome here, used racial slurs and said black people “get hung in these parts.”

Blomberg pleaded not guilty to the intimidation charge on Friday.

2. On overlooked aspect of the Trump candidacy

The major media focus on the unanswerable questions: Who's a racist? How racist was this or that? Yes, what was said could be interpreted as racist, but the person who said it isn't racist (don't ask how that works).

The overlooked aspect is that all of this bigotry has given certain segments of our society permission to act out their prejudice in ways they couldn't or wouldn't before. What's happening is pretty obvious, but for some reason the popular media has snagged itself on the imponderables.
