While some on the left fret that Hillary is a "war hawk" (she's not, so I don't want to argue that point) what I am seeing increasingly on the right is a ramping up of fear and loathing and anger. They've got a lot on their minds. A crapload of the news is coming from overseas. Increasingly it's coming from inside the US, and most of that is self-inflicted, but that is beside the point.
They're angry and scared and not thinking. Per the usual, RW news media is stoking the fires. However I recently noticed that MSNBC is back to their old tricks of providing a musical score of an anxiety-provoking leitmotif to specific news segments, to wit, anything remotely to do with terrorism at home or overseas.
Los Angeles Times today carried a photo of a woman holding out her baby to Trump with an ecstatic grin on her face. The sign in back of her said "Thank You Jesus for Donald Trump."
You all do remember the term "strongman," don't you? The guy who comes along in some Third World nation during a time of chaos and with the help of his gang of thugs (oh sorry, army) "restores order"? People who are feeling desperate and out of control welcome his promise to restore order.
In our country this is mostly an emotional reaction to awful events. However our cities are not in ruins. Our suburban stores are full of food. The lights are on in our hospitals and the pharmacies are stocked with medicine. But you would not know that from listening to Trump or FOX.
Strongmen can be elected. How do we reach our fellow Americans before they do something that can't be undone, like elect Trump and Pence?
