I have seen a number of posts talking about hoping the RNC is a "trainwreck," that they hope the gun nuts "reap what they sow," and one person even said "if there is bloodshed than good."
While I hope the most disorganized, shitty RNC takes place and is embarrassingly painful for the GOP and Drumpf, I really do NOT hope for any bloodshed. I have friends who are Cleveland and other City Cops who are on duty this week. I have friends who live and work in downtown Cleveland.
I know it is easy to want the right wing nuts to look bad...but personally I don't want bloodshed and neither should any of you.

The police officers. and their families must be dreading this coming fiasco of a "Celebration" People worldwide are in shock that an insane clown such as tRump is the nominee. What a coup for the republican party!! I think many of the representatives are not attending because of the fear of an all out battle. The racists certainly have been riled up.

(111,141 posts)outside the venue, I'll issue a heartfelt plea once again: PROTESTERS, STAY HOME!
Those pieces of shit are spoiling for a fight already and will be pumped up by Drumpf and probably alcohol. I can see nothing but disaster facing any protesters, the city and law enforcement, and eventually our country.
Violence is not our friend. It is very likely to happen if people insist on going there, whether or not they pledge to be peaceful. We know they haven't made such a pledge, ever.

Think of the protests of about the last fifteen years - the militarized police treating innocent american people with eardrum blasting machines, pepper spray rubber bullets and other forms of police brutaily arrests, lives ruined with bad record for being a good citizen
then think of a large gathering of people fueled by trumps racist hatred. more murders or lynching of minorities or vise versa.

(13,616 posts)Cleveland, a solidly liberal city, can do so.
I will offer one warning. The GOP is famous for stiffing hotels and trying to discourage people from using non approved venues. Tampa for example, is famous for it's cigar bars, but they tried to move people to a "cigar tent" that was literally in a vacant part of downtown, as opposed to Ybor, which is the nightclub area. Expect to hear a lot of "why didn't the convention bring prsoperity to local business" articles, as well as "GOP Hotel bill not paid."
That bring said, however Gun loving Ohio may be, Florida is far far worse.

(4,640 posts)I really DO hope their convention is a trainwreck, but in the "oh my god you didn't really say that" kind of way, not any other.
The protesters have the RIGHT to exercise their first amendment rights, but peacefully.
What scares me is open carry. I hope that they don't fan the flames of hate so high inside the convention that some ass outside the convention takes it as a license to open fire on any who disagree with them, such as the protesters. Then you have the cops outside who will be protecting the protesters, who end up in yet another gun fight. It's the stuff of nightmares.
Kasich is a coward. Why won't he make an executive order to temporarily suspend open carry for the duration of the convention?

(14,007 posts)not the inside mess. I do hope the inside is a chaotic mess for the voters to see. (660 posts)Like Nixon, Trump wants protesters. He wants chaos. He wants disorder. It plays right into his hands.
Trump's pitch is that the Democrats cannot maintain a civil society because Democrats are too weak to maintain order. So, people who want to help Trump get elected should show up at his convention and go crazy. That's what he wants.
If you want to beat Trump, just don't go to his convention. Prepare for November.

(2,577 posts)Including someone who is probably one the most passionate, most outspoken advocates against gun violence I've ever met. Reports are that all is peaceful. The plan is to talk with as many media outlets as possible about progressive values and why we oppose Drumpf and Company. When the group posts more details, I will share them with everyone. I know that the anti-gun violence advocate was interviewed by a Chinese TV broadcaster--others spoke with the BBC and major US outlets.
I know I don't want ANY violence of any kind in Cleveland--I just know how nervous I am with Ohio's open carry laws.
