As a Clevelander I am reading some scary things being said...by DU members

I have seen a number of posts talking about hoping the RNC is a "trainwreck," that they hope the gun nuts "reap what they sow," and one person even said "if there is bloodshed than good."

While I hope the most disorganized, shitty RNC takes place and is embarrassingly painful for the GOP and Drumpf, I really do NOT hope for any bloodshed. I have friends who are Cleveland and other City Cops who are on duty this week. I have friends who live and work in downtown Cleveland.

I know it is easy to want the right wing nuts to look bad...but personally I don't want bloodshed and neither should any of you.

then think of a large gathering of people fueled by trumps racist hatred. more murders or lynching of minorities or vise versa.

Cleveland, a solidly liberal city, can do so.

I will offer one warning. The GOP is famous for stiffing hotels and trying to discourage people from using non approved venues. Tampa for example, is famous for it's cigar bars, but they tried to move people to a "cigar tent" that was literally in a vacant part of downtown, as opposed to Ybor, which is the nightclub area. Expect to hear a lot of "why didn't the convention bring prsoperity to local business" articles, as well as "GOP Hotel bill not paid."

That bring said, however Gun loving Ohio may be, Florida is far far worse.

I really DO hope their convention is a trainwreck, but in the "oh my god you didn't really say that" kind of way, not any other.

The protesters have the RIGHT to exercise their first amendment rights, but peacefully.

What scares me is open carry. I hope that they don't fan the flames of hate so high inside the convention that some ass outside the convention takes it as a license to open fire on any who disagree with them, such as the protesters. Then you have the cops outside who will be protecting the protesters, who end up in yet another gun fight. It's the stuff of nightmares.

Kasich is a coward. Why won't he make an executive order to temporarily suspend open carry for the duration of the convention?

We should not speak & act like the repugs.
Deranged don spews enough hate & idiocy.

Thought for the day

It is never my custom to use words lightly. If twenty-seven years in prison have done anything to us, it was to use the silence of solitude to make us understand how precious words are and how real speech is in its impact on the way people live and die. -Nelson Mandela, activist, South African president, Nobel laureate (18 Jul 1918-2013)

The RNC platform is a disgrace--which should embarrass them but I know it will not.

Like Nixon, Trump wants protesters. He wants chaos. He wants disorder. It plays right into his hands.

Trump's pitch is that the Democrats cannot maintain a civil society because Democrats are too weak to maintain order. So, people who want to help Trump get elected should show up at his convention and go crazy. That's what he wants.

If you want to beat Trump, just don't go to his convention. Prepare for November.

as if Cleveland is under siege for the week. The constant talk of open carry and fear will give everyone a good eyeful of what this entire country will look like if open carry and Trumps policy of hate and fear should ever win out.

Hopefully, everyone will make it through the week safely but a lot wiser about the cost of the policy of destruction.

I'm praying that none of the attendees at the Republican convention reap the consequences of the hatred and division they've been sowing. We have had enough violence. It's a contagion and it needs to be stopped. Only love can do that.

You should alert if you come across any post advocating for violence. That's not who we are. I sincerely do hope the convention itself is a circus. Stay safe and I hope the repugs spend a lot of money in your city.

I don't want anything to happen at the convention that is even remotely seen as violent. Let the idiot Republicans make a mockery of themselves all BY themselves.

If they are left alone to do that - they will do that.

if there was a bloodbath at the convention. All those NRA open-carry supporters make the nation more dangerous for all of us. Let them experience the consequences of their political stance.

All I'm saying is that the right wing has made this country more dangerous by blocking all gun control regulation. If they suffer as a result, and it changes their minds, that's a good thing that will make the entire country safer. But, yeah, Mr Holier-Than-Thou, you just stay up there on your high horse and tell us how very moral you are. Good luck with that.

There are 100 Michigan State Police officers in Cleveland to help keep order. All I care about is that the repubs look bad. And I hope nothing happens to make Obama, Hillary or the Dems look bad. Of course, we now know that Trump will blame them anyway.

I won't be watching, heavens forbid, but I will be stalking the news for reports on what happened. I want to see Drumpf shown as the petty, thin skinned, egomaniacal, racist, misogynistic, narcisstic violence promoting asshole that he truly is. I want disfunction and stupidity on display. I hope Clinton really keeps up telling the truth about him this week, he won't be able to stand it and will explode.

I will never dis the city they pulled their crap in. Cleveland is a very nice place - they treated us hippie bikers well, and some really good food. AND when it was raining, put us under the only covered spot in the campground.

I do weird from the ground up. Cleveland is very good people.

Including someone who is probably one the most passionate, most outspoken advocates against gun violence I've ever met. Reports are that all is peaceful. The plan is to talk with as many media outlets as possible about progressive values and why we oppose Drumpf and Company. When the group posts more details, I will share them with everyone. I know that the anti-gun violence advocate was interviewed by a Chinese TV broadcaster--others spoke with the BBC and major US outlets.

I know I don't want ANY violence of any kind in Cleveland--I just know how nervous I am with Ohio's open carry laws.
