Unfortunately, kentuck, only the title applies to what I think you're implying. The song's lyrics, by the illustrious Stephen Sondheim, are a lament of a love affair that never worked out. I'm fairly certain that's not what you were thinking about!

Republicans love affair with Donald Trump doesn't seem to be working out very well? But, the analogy has to be seen from more than a personal viewpoint, I would agree.
