They just said the speechwriter delivered the speech and NONE of the plagiarized parts were in there.
Number 1 - she lied if a speech was delivered
Number 2 - who put the bad stuff in? Melania? (secretly hates republicans?)
One of the kids? (to fuck with step mom)? Trump? (with hopes to play some kind of sympathy card? Although if that was true, he would have played that card by now)
If it was Melania - perhaps in Slovenia - plagiarism not a crime??? Anyone else? they were up to no damn good.

(29,692 posts)no one thought anyone would notice? Pretty stupid...sort of like the whole campaign. It's painful to watch and terrifying to think it might be our future.

(191 posts)She got a full day of free press. All he needs to do is something stupid, then we go on the offensive and now they feel sympathy for him since we are beating up on his wife. He is trying to get us to show our ass. There are much bigger issues we can get him on if we stop playing into his little sideshows. Last night was about uniting the hardcore republican base and possibly pulling back the libertarian voters. He probably got a slight bump in the polls from this.

still keep your voters, you may believe that you could steal paragraphs from Michelle Obama's speech and get away with it.

Ok, my new view is that she is a total pawn. She didn't plagiarize. They had a speech handed to her. And then SOMEONE added plagiarized material to it. WTF?
P.S. Haven't spelled the word plagiarize - probably never It's a tough one LOL

An English major doesn't know about plagiarism - WTF?????

(42,770 posts)Its a good story, but it doesnt appear to be true.
Melania Trump never earned a university degree in architecture ― she dropped out of college after her freshman year, according to her biographers. Still, she claims to have a degree from university in Slovenia.
Questions about her education grew more significant Tuesday morning, following the revelation that Melania Trump plagiarized parts of her speech to the Republican National Convention from one that First Lady Michelle Obama gave in 2008.
That revelation on Monday raised the question of whether there was anything else Melania Trump hadnt been entirely truthful about.
Slovenian journalists Bojan Pozar and Igor Omerza wrote in their biography on the former fashion model that she became ― and remained ― a college dropout after leaving the University of Ljubljanas architecture school following her freshman year

(42,770 posts)Later, in America, after meeting Donald Trump and officially becoming his partner, Melania Knauss told the media that she got her degree in architecture and design. This was almost certainly done in consultation with Trump and his advisors, as they were desperate to give off the impression that the Slovenian model was not just beautiful, but also smart and well-educated.
A spokeswoman for the Trump campaign declined to comment early Tuesday on Melania Trumps claim that she has a university degree.

(5,762 posts)We have people for that. We don't waste our valuable time (it's money, you know) on writing words. Put one of the interns on it. Yeah, that guy. The freshman. He'll do anything, and we don't even have to pay him.

(5,762 posts)When I heard her interviewed elsewhere (NPR?) earlier this year, she didn't strike me as a dummy. Lying, sure. Obviously. But, she had enough brains to use the means available to her (her looks, her modeling life) to scale the ladder like many before her. I assume a certain calculus on her part in attracting the attention of a man with a notoriously short attention span. There's a dynamic playing out here in a very public and interesting way.
If she lacks agency, she gave it away willingly. She's not a dupe, but she may be out of her depth. Trusted the wrong people and they dropped her in it, intentionally or not.

(260 posts)and by 'us' I mean people who already think not very highly of the Trump Circus.
It's amazing that he and his campaign can do pretty much anything and there are no real consequences...he will get 40% of the vote regardless of what he says or does going forward.
GulfCoast66
(11,949 posts)And have always thought that about both parties. It is a binary choice every election and neither, lacking a strong 3rd party will drop below 40%.
But now I am not sure. I have several republican friends that are saying they will not vote for trump. 2 are not sure if it will be Hillary or Johnson and the 3rd is going for Johnson. These are all college educated guys in their 40s who have never voted for anyone except the Republican candidate. And I live in Florida where every vote counts.
I support Hillary and have never been a Bernie guy, but the 30 years of smears against her have done some damage. I hope she goes positive to the hilt telling how she is going to make American more prosperous and stronger. Hell, I hope the name Donald Trump never crosses the lips of speakers at the DNC. After the shit storm of hate we are seeing now a positive message will do wonders.
Everyone have a nice evening.

if it was planned, it was planned as a distraction: "look, shiny plagiarism things! nevermind the xenophobia and racism, look at the plagiarism! everybody be mean to Trump's wife so she can gin up some sympathy!" *jingles plagiarism story in front of toddler media*
plagiarism isn't their biggest problem, it's the original material that really stinks, and now it's effectively ignored.
