The party platform itself explicitly allows gun ownership and recognizes it as a right. Owning a gun isn't even remotely "against everything we stand for".

I have voted straight Democrat since 1968 and have owned guns off and on since 1963. I am not a nut and do believe in some type of regulation. I own no pistols but 9 long guns. All shot guns are just 3 shots before reloading and the large caliber that holds five carterages and has to be hand reloaded every time, no carterages. The .22 rifles will hold around 19 shorts which will not tip over a soup can an it has to be hand loaded.

Things were different when all we had were .38 revolvers.
