Like Bruce Willis drilling himself into the core of an evil asteroid, Third Eye Blind performed to a sea of GOPers at a charity concert in Cleveland last night with the apparent intention of pissing everyone off.
According to Billboard, the band refused to play most of its hitsexcept for Jumper, which is about a gay man who jumps off a bridge, and which singer Stephan Jenkins introduced by talking about the need to bring people like my cousins, who are gay, into the American fabric, and to not live your life in fear and imposing that fear on other people. From Billboard:
Witnesses at the groups Tuesday night show in Cleveland, a charity gig inside the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, reported that Jenkins used the occasion to say he repudiates what the Republican party now stands for. Clips uploaded to social media platforms show the crowd booing, followed by Jenkins exclaiming: You can boo all you want, but Im the motherf-in artist up here.
Jenkins also reportedly asked the crowd to raise your hand if you believe in science, to which they responded with boos. Nice!

OH MY GOD.
Science has given us SO LITTLE.
I'll be checking out Third Eye Blind a bit more now.

(9,895 posts)No offense to kwolf68 is meant or implied here...I am responding to the GOP and right-wing nonsense about "believing in science", whether that be the causal link between cigarettes and cancer (ask their current VP nominee about that), the age of the Earth or the theory of Evolution (ask their twice removed VP nominee about that), or Anthropomorphic Climate Change (ask any of the current jackals in congress about that).
I do not "believe" in ANY of those things because they are not articles of faith! The act of understanding science means that you are capable of reading data, understanding theories that explain that data and willing to change your position based on new evidence or changing facts due to additional information or studies.
Everytime I see some jackass reporter say that "x % of Americans do not 'believe' in climate change" or "y % of Americans do not 'believe' in Darwin's theory of Evolution", I want to scream!!!!

(7,286 posts)Mr Jenkins gave very moving and eloquent speeches about unity and respect and tributes to the victims. As it was one of the last shows of the weekend, the venue was packed and the crowd was well in tune with his words and their music. Because of time frames, Bonnaroo does not allow encores. The crowds know this.
This band had to do one as the crowd wouldn't leave.
In 5 trips to Bonnaroo, this was hands down one of the most memorable shows
