COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (WOWT) -- Kenny Petty's dog Shady is still recovering after being shot in the jaw. A portion of her face was shattered, and her veterinarian said she was nearly killed.

Petty told WOWT 6 News that Council Bluffs police shot his dog while he was being served with a search warrant. Her face was mangled after being shot.

"The vet told me she is one tough nail and he don't know how she's here," Petty said, fighting back tears.

The incident unfolded last week when, Petty said, police came into his home. Petty said it’s no secret he has a long criminal history, but he believes his dog paid the price.
