Lee Atwater's widow just interviewed on MSNBC

She's a Trumpster. She was persuaded by the lack of jobs in Union, SC. She said how it used to be a busy, bustling textile mill town. Now there are no jobs. Trump, she says, will fix that.

How?

Bring back his clothing lines from China and Thailand, and Bangladesh, and Vietnam, and wherever else he has them made?

and what he does is go for the lowest costs in everything like any other capitalist asshole.
that is why Union, SC has no jobs. The Trumps of the world can get it much cheaper elsewhere.

BTW- nice town name Union. Bet there ain't a union around there for a hundred miles.

What she is speaking of was cotton growing country. The economy was based on slave labor picking the cotton when child labor in the cotton mills. Yes that era is over. Dead and gone. The textile mill I grew up next to is gone. Nothing but the smokestack is left. It was called Orr Lyons Mill. Look it up if you're curious. The Carolinas we're known for their cotton mills and slavery along with several other states that use slave labor. That type of work is now more mechanical in nature. Less manpower is needed except for the slave labor that is now overseas. But that involves more sewing factories after the product has been produced. Like coal mining the whole industry has changed. So if Trump wants to bring it back we need to go back about a century and a half.

For those too young to have been around or old enough to understand. . . Lee Atwater was one of George H.w. Bush's (Bush Senior) political operatives when Bush was running against Governor Michael Dukakis of Massachusetts. Atwater came up with some of the nastiest political ads of that decade. The famous one everybody remembers is the "Willie Horton" Ad regarding an African American who had been released on parole (by a Republican) and who then committed another crime. Of course this was blamed on the Democrats. In any case, Bush won.

As for Lee Atwater, he got brain cancer, actually RECANTED for his bad behavior with ugly ads, and then bought the farm.

Sounds like his wife didn't understand ANYTHING her husband apologized for. If she is voting for Trump, I would venture to say that she was not even capable of understanding her husband's apology because of sheer stupidity.

I don't remember the details, but even Mary Matalin figured it was bogus.

Okay, just found this:

Mary Matalin, who never trusted or approved of Atwater, says: "After he died, they found the Bible still wrapped in its cellophane." She thinks he might have been spinning right to the end.

I'd encourage anyone who has any interest in campaigns and messaging and the like to watch it. I don't like Atwater but he was an interesting character.
