President Gore! President Gore! President Gore!

Imagine what could have been! Cleaner air, cleaner water-a President who put the environment first. Think about it. No, seriously, think about what George Bush did to this country. Think of the empowerment that came from the conservative Supreme Court accepting a crooked Florida vote since the totals were so close.

Every Ralph Nader voter who made a statement contributed to President Bush and robbed the country of our first environmentalist president. I say robbed because what good did that Nader statement vote make? Are we better off for it? Did the good from voting Nader balance out what the Bush administration did to this country? Think hard and honestly. Think of the Bush judges now presiding over cases across the land. Was Citizen's United worth your Nader vote?

Think very hard Bernie friends. What Bush did to this country will be fingerling potatoes compared to a Trump presidency. Is that the statement you want to make? Politics move like molasses and you gave things a good hard shove to the left. Accept that victory, take a deep breath and say a prayer that we can push it further left next election too. But for now, today, we need to be United or we lose all our progress. All of those hard-earned victories swept away by a Trump presidency.

Trump cannot win if we stay united. We are all that stand in his way.

a hard earned surplus, which Bush wiped out and more. I think of what could have been done with all that.

Haranguing Bernie supporters won't do much good. Will piss them off more than anything.

The typical Bernie supporter is smart, they know what a shit show Trump is trolling with. I don't see a meaningful number going over there. Frankly, I don't see a lot of them going 3rd party either. They'll do what they do, they have free will. I suspect any meaningful number of them will vote for Hillary.

Those in Florida, perhaps ... but most Nader voters were either in states that went to Gore or wouldn't have gone to Gore no matter what.

As for Bernie supporters, I think most are already on board. It strikes me as strange to compare Bernie/Bernie supporters to someone who ran against the democrats four cycles ago.

>>most Nader voters had no effect whatsoever Those in Florida, perhaps<<

And that's all it took.

Officially, Bush beat Gore by 537 votes in Florida. Nader got 97,488 votes in Florida. {1}

Even accepting Nader’s dubious claims that,

"In the year 2000, exit polls reported that 25% of my voters would have voted for Bush, 38% would have voted for Gore and the rest would not have voted at all."

that still means a net of 13%, or 12,665, more votes would have gone to Gore than to Bush. {2}

This one has 21% would have voted for Bush, and 47% would have voted for Gore, for a 26% gap, or 25,347 more votes for Gore than Bush {3}

Yes, yes, I know there were many reasons Bush beat Gore -- all of them were essential to Bush's victory -- if even one of these elements had been missing, Bush would have lost),

e.g. Kathleen Harris purging the voting lists of supposed felons, Gore running a poor campaign, media dubbing Gore a serial liar (Love Story and all that), the butterfly ballots giving Gore's votes to Buchanan, the U.S. Supreme Court stopping the recount -- yada. But it doesn't wipe out the fact that even with all that, Gore would have won if not for Nader drawing thousands more votes away from Gore than from Bush.

As for the Supreme Court -- if the vote count on election night and the days and weeks after the election had put Gore ahead by 12,000 or 25,000 votes instead of down by 500 or 600, it would unlikely have gone to the Supreme Court; and even less likely that they would have declared the 12,000 or 25,000 vote count loser to be the winner of Florida's electoral votes.

I agree with you that there is no doubt that, as a block, Nader voters in Florida had a negative effect on that election.

And why kill that Osama bin Laden fella who helped us beat the Russians in Afghanistan. Just because he tried to blow up the World Trade Center, what 15 years ago. Get over it, you already tried, convicted and sentenced the guys who did it -- it's still standing -- don't ya know. Just like Clinton, Gore meets with those so-called intelligence people every day. Once every six months should be more than enough I tell ya. And, just because we don't need that Saudi money in the banks anymore is no reason to upset their apple cart all the way over there. What, just because we get half our energy from solar and wind and whatever. It's still only half. What have they done to us? Dang liberal, spending American tax dollars to give a light water reactor to those nuts in North Korea -- like they'd ever be able to make a nuke. Ha! President Gore is a real problem. Constantly stopping banks from selling new products like CDOs and CDSs. Over regulation -- all the time. The only reason the economy has not nosedived completely is because of the new advances in communications. Ha! If he were to join, say, Apple Corporation their stock would tumble. Just take my word for it. We could sell our rights to the airwaves and pay off the debt, but, "No," he says.

Yup, it would be horrible.

Ending the fake Republican as sarcasm...

Problem is, Trump is not a third party Nader, he's a second party upstart. And, Hillary runs as stayed, calm, assured, old school. And the mood of the public is not for stayed, calm, assured, old school. I hope she can win it, but, it's more of a battle than I have seen her admit just yet.

you don't have to worry about spoilers who draw a percentage of votes far smaller than the number of registered Democrats who did not vote at all or who voted for Bush. They draw a number of voters that is smaller still than the number of potential Democratic voters who are not even registered. Who lost Florida for Gore? Florida Democrats. 56% turnout with millions and millions of votes on the table, Bush's advantage was a few hundred votes and millions were left on the table.
