6. I am reminded that back in 1995

Back in 1995, the Clinton White House was having some fun with the country, and a Socks the Cat fan club was started. Members would receive cards and periodic updates from the First Feline. Naturally, this captured the attention of congressional Republicans, who launched an investigation (Yeah, Dan Burton was involved, why do you ask?) into whether any taxpayer money was being wasted on this bagatelle. I'm not sure how much money was spent trying to track down whether any White House staff or stationery was being used for the fan club, but as usual, the Republican pecksniffs found nothing.

So yeah, if the Trump campaign and the Republicans have to spend time and money trying to prove that Meredith McIver is a real person, I'm okay with that. Call it another payback under the Goose-and-Gander Principle.
