Last VCR to be produced this month.

http://time.com/4418950/vcr-video-production-japan/

As the article says: No rewinding on this decision.

Children today no longer recognize it, but the VCR, once common in American households, is finally making a goodbye.

The Funai Corporation of Japan, the last-known company still manufacturing the VCR, said in a statement Thursday that it would stop making VCRs at the end of July because of “difficulty acquiring parts,” The New York Times reports.

The Funai Corporation said, “We are the last manufacturer” of VCRs “in all of the world.” In 2015, only 750,000 units of VCRs were sold worldwide.

The VCR was introduced in the 1950s, released for homes in the 1960s. In the 1970s, they started becoming more widespread to consumers, when Sony’s Betamax and JVC’s VHS formats started to compete. By the early 1980s, millions of households owned VCR’s. At the time, they ranged in price from $600 to $1,200.

The VCR started to die out after the DVD was introduced in 1995, and in the years that followed, the sale of DVDs exceeded the sale of video cassettes.

which used a YUGE! disc in a plastic insertion sleeve.

Is that what they want to take us back to as "great?"

Back in my day, kiddies couldn't just download movies. We had to drive to a store that did nothing but rent them to you.

And George Foreman grilles. Kind of like Christmas fruit cake. No one really wants them.

lot of money back then. Those things were built like a tank and weighed about 30 pounds. I used that for I don't know how many years then gave it to my younger brother, he used it for several years. I remember one time his daughter tried to play a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in it. I think the kids finally finished it off. The second one I bought is in a box in my closet haven't used it for years.

Or you could. I still have a DVD player/recorder that has a tuner and everything. Those are almost impossible to find anymore, too. Everything is digital downloads now.
