Bill Maher was really misogynist yesterday

Everything that he "revealed" one did not know about Clinton was so sexist that it was difficult to hear.

Would he have said that Trump named his balls Ivana and Marla?

Would he have said that Sanders named his Marx and Engels?

And the usual comments, straight from 2008, about Clinton pantsuit..

And to have this Lt. Gen Flynn?

I know Maher really really wants Obama on his show. After all, he did give him a million. I hope that Obama continues to refuse. He does have two daughters whom he adores and expect to have successful professional life without enduring all this sh*t.

in the attempt to provide humor and spares few. I can see him using examples you cited. It was, 'Well we see Sen. Sanders has tossed his yamaka into the ring' when Bernie first announced. The pantsuits remark was old, unfunny, lame and his usual shtick, predictable every time. He's looking less and less sharp and prepared in the last couple years.

8. right, because when you're a "comedian," basic rules of decency and right/wrong don't apply.

wow. i've heard this reasoning many times on DU; it's like WTF??? where do i get my "comedian" license, so i can do and say any nasty, hateful, rude, mean, or just plain untrue thing i want to and get away with it? i'm sorry, but comedians are subject to the same rules of judgement that apply to everybody else; they're not special.

Once every 20 or 30 weeks or so, Maher says something clever, and people trip over themselves to praise his wit and insightfulness. Then, when he reverts to his true form (preaching anti-vax bullshit, attacking women or Islam indiscriminately), the very same people who praised him jump up and say "he's a comedian."

It's simplistic and naive to praise Maher for his cleverness when he gets it "right" if we're going to give him a pass when he (much more often) gets it wrong.

12. People who don't like comedy care. I love Maher and a bad joke is not changing my opinion of him

Some jokes land, others don't and may be deemed offensive. That's just the nature of comedy and dark humor. Some people don't like Maher and will attack him any chance they get. People have the right to be upset with Maher because he certainly acts like an asshole at times but I think he's hilarious.

It turns out the Munich attack may not have involved Islam, so there goes his normal target.

6. no, he was in full-on Islamophobe mode last night

He assumed that the Munich attack was the latest in a weekly series of Islamic terror attacks. I really hope that he sets the record straight on his next show.

He also said:

We shouldn't accept any adult male refugees from Syria.

Women who voluntarily wear veils are brainwashed.

The veil-wearers are on their way to becoming 51% of European women, and when that happens, the other 49% will be forced to wear veils as well.

The Republican convention-goers cheered the idea of protecting LGBTQ Americans, and that this would be unthinkable in Muslim countries. He made no mention of the hateful domestic ideology embodied in the Republican platform.

Islamic terrorism should be put in a separate category from other terrorism.

What he does not, cannot, understand is that for many women, in different cultures, covering their faces and bodies provide protection and inner peace. We may not understand it but I respect that for some women this is acceptable.
