U.S. serviceman arrested for drunk driving in Okinawa
NAHA (Kyodo) -- A serviceman in the U.S. Air Force has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in Okinawa, police officials said Sunday.
The arrest of Joren Ladd, a 22-year-old airman, was the second known case of U.S. serviceman in the island prefecture apprehended for drunk driving after the U.S. forces eased last month an off-base alcohol ban imposed in response to arrests of a base worker and a sailor.
The police arrested Ladd around 10:15 a.m. Saturday in the town of Chatan after he collided with another car and a breath test administered by the police indicated his blood-alcohol level was well above the legal limit.
Ladd told the police he had several glasses of beer at a bar near the accident site.
The U.S. military in Okinawa imposed an off-base alcohol ban and midnight curfew in late May after a civilian base worker was arrested in connection with the death of a 20-year-old local woman.
