Olympic Officials Sanction Russian Athletes, but Stop Short of Complete Ban
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/25/sports/olympics/rio-russia-ban-doping.html
The decision not to implement an outright ban was met with dismay from antidoping officials, while Russian officials welcomed it. The Russian flag and at least some of the countrys athletes will be part of the Rio Olympics.
The World Anti-doping Agency recommended a complete ban because the infraction was so monumental.
But money talks and the IOC gives Russia an out to compete.
Wonder if Putin's pal Trump is smiling too?

Sochi was a festival of Putin corruption.
I don't have the time or willingness to convince you.
I suppose you think FIFA is also on the up and up.

A quick google search brings up this=====> https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/may/11/tokyo-olympic-games-2020-ioc-international-olympic-committee-corruption-bid-scandal
But your argument is "the Russia Team didn't get banned so the IOC was probably bribed". No shit Sherlock. But you should probably should throw in at least a token response about the corruption of the IOC, it really isn't that hard. Now you have me wondering, is your objection about the IOC, Putin or a longing for the good o'le days of the Cold War?

(6,390 posts)The East German Team was clearly doping in '76. The one athlete that called them out was rebuffed. She and others still have not received gold medals after the documents were released that proved their doping (the US media at the time wanted to say that the lack of funding to Olympians in training was to blame). If the IOC ban's the Russian Team, they need to go back and "correct some issues"....not going to happen.
