More than 2,000 homes now threatened, and the fire is believed to have grown to 50-70 square miles.
"It came through like a freight train," says an incident commander for the L.A. County Fire Department.
The department Chief said it's the worst fire behavior he's ever seen this early in the season.
Reports say the fire is pushing toward the Antelope Valley (where I am), but it's still far from us. Like most of the SoCal area, all we've had is a lot of smoke for a couple of days.
Best wishes to all those threatened by the fire and all the evacuees. Some left loved ones behind who insisted on staying despite mandatory evacuations, and evacuees have no idea what happened to them.

(149,588 posts)It's a scary big fire and all those folks out there are having to deal with it.
And the firefighters! Working in terrible conditions with danger all around...We are safe because of them.

(53,339 posts)Local news channels have been nothing but the Sand Fire, and I was on one that pre-empted programming to continue fire coverage.
And working in those canyons is treacherous for firefighters. The wind and gusts have been really bad. A change in direction, as happened this morning, can be disastrous.
Best thoughts to all.

(53,339 posts)Many of the animals were successfully evacuated yesterday, but when the immediate threat receded, the remaining animals were kept there overnight.
The news reports I saw this evening asked if the remaining animals had been evacuated, but none of the news orgs had been able to find an answer.
