He tried to tell me that it doesn't make a difference, that Washington is just a circus.
I put it back on him. I told him it's a circus because people like him won't vote.
I told him that my niece wouldn't have had healthcare coverage in the 1990s without SCHIP (Hillary's), and that my son is able to go to school today in part for the work she did in identifying the disability problems of access.
I asked him him why he was complaining, and told him as long as people like him sit on the sidelines, why should they expect anything to get better?

(86,536 posts)I have a few Bernie supporters in my work group and we talk politics in a respectful manner. They are disheartened but understand that they must vote and that voting for anyone other than HRC will be unacceptable. I told them that I don't like the crap about the DNC's current problems and I sure don't care for DWS but I have a lot of respect for HRC and will proudly vote for her because I think she's awesome and that I think we are long over due for a woman in the White House. Not only are we about to put a woman in the WH but we are about to vote in the most qualified woman ever. AND that we also need to flip Congress to Democratic control or we will never see anything change or get better.
My colleagues will be voting for Hillary, I am trying to make them feel more confident about why it's appropriate.
Life was on the upswing for many of us during Bill's administration, many of his education policies made it possible for me to complete college after a shaky start, I will always be thankful for that. Recall his campaign slogan was "So, how're you doing?" The sad part is that I graduated with my advanced degree just after he left office and the my chosen career path evaporated by the end of 2001. I would like to advance in the field before I have to retire, Hillary in office supported by a Democratic Congress is my only hope at this point, I have only a few years left before I am put out to pasture by my physical condition so I hope I will see this much needed transition take place over the next eight or so months.

(49,978 posts)The only reasonable excuse I've ever heard for not voting was from the journalist, Helen Thomas. She said she didn't want her voting preference to influence her writing. Even if only subtly.
