at this stage of the game or do they have to live with what they created?
Some sane minds in that party have to be thinking about this.

(21,921 posts)The Republicans are organizationally inept and fractured as a political party. They would not be able to put together a credible organization in the three months till the election. Plus, there are far too many voices of discord in the GOP; no one trusts anyone.
A big reason that Donald Trump won the primaries is because that so-called "deep bench" of candidates Republicans boasted about turned out to be a bunch of ultra-lightweights. One by one, Mr. Trump picked them off. None of those losers was presidential. Further, the party's heavyweights chose to stay away.
Now, the GOP is stuck with their candidate and it will be to our advantage in many wonderful ways.

Now that he's the official nominee, he is supposed to receive security briefings from our intelligence agencies.

(49,533 posts)even Dick Cheney wouldn't allow that to happen.
Is today's GOP more evil than Cheney? Damn.

(10,857 posts)Trump is a narcissist whose public persona is very important to him. It also makes him predictable and capable of being manipulated in ways known to psychologists but not to me. One thing I do know is that narcissists suffer from occasional depression and crashes of self-esteem. When prosecutors start closing in, he'll fold up like a lawn chair, but only for a comparatively brief moment.
If prosecutors wait until that moment and then give Trump the choice between walking out now and making it appear as if it's his own decision, or staring down the possibility of federal charges once he loses, or half a dozen ways of legally neutralizing him if he wins, he'll take the deal and walk.
If he drops out, it's almost a no-harm-no-foul situation where his departure satisfies the public interest and he may be permitted to continue as he has with more exposure and more money. If he stays in, he'll be mentioned in the same breath as Benedict Arnold for the next hundred years.

(8,992 posts)They will decide to cut their loses and replace him with Pence. Still bad for them but they can gain some control. The problem is how to do it and keep his base. Trump will have to leave on his own accord whether it be health as an excuse (all that shortness of breadth today), or threatening him with some sort of back door legal action if he doesn't. If he leaves on his own his ego will still be intact and he could say he would have won if he could have stayed in.
Caveat..LOL..this from a guy who thought that he never really wanted the job.
