I respect and admire VP Biden. I have been a Obama/Biden supporter from the very beginning. I loved 85% of his speech.
I was all on board till the we got to that last part...that "USA" chanting and found it a little hawkish and nationalistic in tone that was a little awkward. It would have been better to have kept with that positive approach he was going for from the beginning.
Not raining on his parade, just a little constructive criticism.
I know some of you may flame me but I truly mean it with the best of intentions and not at all unkindly.

(8,685 posts)I was there for 85% of it. After years of listening to bluster and chest-thumping and "USA" chants, that ultra-nationalist tone is an awkward approach for me. There is a difference between pride in country and a false sense of exceptionalism.

(21,086 posts)This not what ultra nationalist looks like. This is excitement for a country that people love. Sounds like you are flagging a bit on that score, not un heard of, we all feel that way at times.
But this is an amazing country with an incredible and varied history. You are part of that. And I am part of that. And Joe Biden who has served this country that he loves is part of that. SO he gets a little excited, big deal.

(8,685 posts)Just because it feeds some red meat and appears to counter that false narrative that Democrats are not proud Americans does not mean it's a good approach. It means we are more like them.
There is no such thing as "American Exceptionalism", we are an amazing nation but we are not protected or guided by the hand of a god.
Every nation thinks their nation is the best.
A better use of our time would be showing how we love our country and continue to show that Democrats vision is the best vision for our nation. I don't want to be anything like them.

(111,069 posts)They are not usually the ones waving the flag or spouting patriotic slogans. But, in this instance, it is the right message to give the American people. Because people do not want to lose their country. America, with all its faults, is still worth saving. We do not wish to lose it to the likes of Donald Trump and his Republican allies. If that means that we have to demonstrate a little patriotism, then I think that is an acceptable weapon against Donald Trump.
From now on its about persuading people to vote for her. If this works, I've no problem with it. After all, this is an election.
