Cokie has, rather recently over the past decade or so, put herself out there as a powerful and commanding specifically-woman. I've seen this as a change for her. I'm old enough to remember a time when Hale BOGGS her father was a big big Democratic Name, then (for me) more vaguely afterward when her mother Lindy BOGGS took a place somewhat less prominently. And when Cokie was not even a blip.
Then in her early career she was a featured sort of Dem surrogate on yak shows, but came across as tentative and sort of wishy washy. I never saw her as a leader for feminism. But in the last decade she has been presenting herself as a powerhouse of a feminist spokesperson, and her quasi insights (small opinions) have turned into bellowing assertions. And, correspondingly, as she has come to see herself as the embodiment of all the women across history, her punditry has become "tough" (in quotes) and therefore harsher on Dems to show how "tough" minded she is.
So her bit on GMA was to say that apparently Hillary is some sort of alien, and that Chelsea needs to do something different from just the angle of Hillary as mother and grandmother and daughter because Hillary "doesn't even seem authentic talking about being a grandmother."
Wtf. I would submit to Cokie that people like Hale BOGGS and Hillary have more concrete accomplishments than just spouting assertions.

Then look at the people who spoke who had met her.
The media attempts to create these problems.

(45,251 posts)Cokie Roberts was contemptuous. Apparently, while being accused of being Muslim and Kenyan, going to Hawaii only reinforced foreign-ness. A panelist commented that Hawaii was America, whereupon she huffed, that it was too "exotic."
I gazed at the TV, in stunned silence, blinking in utter disbelief.
Okay, like the rest of us, maybe Cokie knew his grandmother was ill, but did not know how very close to death his grandmother was, but still....
And that is another way media does us in. Republicans on these "balanced" panels never undercut or sabotage the candidate of their party. Cokie Roberts, who often sits in the seat of a Democrat on these panels, on the other hand, will do it in a New York nanosecond, with a backward glance.

I heard it at PBS the first night of the convention and at NBC last night. I'm always yelling at the TV, "We know who signs your paychecks."

(5,762 posts)with her Buckleyesque nasal delivery, she never fails to spin how bad things look for the Democrats, how they step in it every single time, all the while burnishing every Republican who comes into her orbit.
Was so done with her so long ago.
