Is a puzzlement.

I was raised by 1950s conservatives.

It seems strange to say that, considering today’s iteration of that perspective. Mom and Dad weren’t racist, they taught us that hate is wrong, they never told us to fear people who are different, they encouraged us to welcome newcomers and to help those in need.

Is a puzzlement: either conservatives have changed or the dictionary has.

Well ... these days, any haters.

The word "conservative" is very much misused by them.

There is NOTHING 'conservative' about those who, these days, call themselves such (and the media, too.)

'a person who is averse to change and holds to traditional values and attitudes, typically in relation to politics'

I have lived in two places, Phoenix and the OC.

A friend recently made the comment that Republicans dominate both. I corrected him, Republicans in AZ are dominated by hate filled racists, in the OC they are noticeably less racist. Actually I stated, "AZ republicans are ignorant racist assholes, the OC ones aren't racists" CA is obviously much more liberal so perhaps that tempers OC Repubs, but I tend to think it is more tempered by working and interacting with many of the "others."

Also, the three largest cities in the OC are now majority Democratic. (Party registrations) Santa Ana and Anaheim with high Hispanic populations, along with Irvine with high Asian population.

I have also noticed the same on Facebook, my AZ high school friends can be counted on to post ignorant racist crap almost daily, where as the OC ones have never posted racist crap, ignorant yes, racist no.

At one time there was a fictional ideal of a fiscal conservative. Someone you could count on to hold down government expenditures and taxes. And that could be either party. Now the republicans have been taking over by the new conservative movement what can pretty much be anybody who says they are conservative in any form.
