Merrick Garland

Republicans in Congress must be suffering in their jocks* at the thought of Hillary's pick to replace Scalia. And make no mistake; Trump will never, ever get to nominate anyone to SCOTUS.

Can they salvage a gram of dignity by allowing a hearing for PBO's nominee in the face of what could be a far worse outcome as far as they are concerned?

The GOP won't and they will block Madam President's nominees as well.

Sweet Jesus, I hate Mitch McConnell. When the Democrats take the Senate, with a straight face, he will call them Obstructionists over everything and fools will b believe him!

He will go nuclear and finish the work that Harry Reid started, making Supreme Court nominees subject to only a 50+1 vote test.

The only way Republicans can block Hillary's nominees is if they retain a Senate majority.

It will be one of their last pitiful acts in power.

Now...if some Democrats were to filibuster or delay the nomination in the lame duck, holding the seat open for Hillary and the new Democratic majority....well wouldn't that be a shame for Republicans? Obama might even forgive them...

If Republicans manage to retain the majority, unlikely but not impossible, the consequences could be disastrous, settle in for at least 2 more years of inaction, I don't think they would confirm anyone.

Should the Ginsberg seat come open at some point during this time, you can guarantee they would also refuse her nominees, as conservatives would regain a 4-3 edge on the Court.

Because if he were not the minute enough returns came in to get a HRC win and at least a 50-50 Senate Garland would be withdrawn and Godwin Liu nominated. And I do mean the minute.
