The battle for dominance between 10 Downing's cat Larry and Palmerston, who just moved into the Foreign Office across the street, has sent fur flying.

The Whitehall cat saga continues — Larry, the Number 10 cat, appears to have struck back after a fight with Palmerston resulted in him injuring his paw.

As Palmerston, the cat for the Foreign Office, feasted on a dead bird, his bald patch was plain to see.

Larry is being blamed for Palmerston's bald patch, captured while he feasted on a bird.

Palmerston is a keen hunter; he has already caught multiple mice at the Foreign Office since he arrived in April and appears to have killed a bird.

Larry, on the other hand, would usually rather have a cat nap than capture a pest.

Gladstone the cat gives Treasury some purr-fect PR

The great offices of state in the UK government need several things, not least an imposing headquarters and a team of diligent civil servants. But now, it seems, there is another necessity: an official, social media-friendly cat.

Gladstone, a black, 18-month-old, short-haired cat, is officially ensconced at the Treasury, following in the pawsteps of Downing Street’s Larry and Palmerston in the Foreign Office.

Like his predecessors, Gladstone’s official job is that of mousecatcher, but he arguably plays just as important a role as a cuddly PR emblem for an otherwise austere government department.

While Larry and Palmerston have their own Twitter accounts, Gladstone has made his official debut on Instagram where, as treasury_cat, he already has more than 1,200 followers.

As someone already pointed out, Larry has a tell-tale tuft of black fur hanging off his right paw.
