San Francisco couple kill daughter's alleged pimp, cops say (SFGate)

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2012/06/14/MNF01P1GIH.DTL

A San Francisco couple whose teenage daughter was allegedly being pimped by a Southern California man tracked him around the state, failing at one attempt to kill him before shooting him to death near Candlestick Park, authorities said Wednesday.

Attorneys for the couple say that they tried everything to rescue their daughter from Calvin Sneed, a 22-year-old alleged gang member from Compton (Los Angeles County), but that they didn't kill him.

...

Eventually, they found out that the girl and Sneed were in North Hollywood, San Francisco police Officer David Nakasu said in the criminal complaint. On May 27, someone fired a 9 mm pistol into Sneed's car, and police believe that it was either Gilton or Mercado.

...

On June 4, Sneed was in San Francisco, driving his Toyota Camry at Meade and LeConte avenues at 2 a.m., when someone - prosecutors say it was Gilton - shot him with a .40-caliber handgun. Sneed crashed into a parked car and died a short time later at San Francisco General Hospital.

I don't know ... the girl is a minor. I can't say this was the right thing to do (assuming they had anything to do with it at all), but I also can't imagine what kind of things I might be considering if my 17-year-old was being pimped out. I can imagine such a thing having a negative effect on my ability to think rationally.

Sorry for the dupe. Since it's the middle of the night, and the story is dated the 14th, I was sure it was new enough that I was breaking it here on DU.

... he was pimping the daughter, the prosecution would not want me on that jury.

too bad about having to go to prison to save your daughter, but I get what they did.

posted here gets huzzahs and applause.

>>"They had gone out to local police agencies, agencies in Southern California - they had even tried talking to national organizations," said Eric Safire, Gilton's attorney. "Every place they turned to turned them away."<<

>>The couple's lawyers say their daughter accompanied Sneed to the hospital after the May 27 incident.<<

But hey, no need for a trial.

they can hang the shooting on the parents.

Many years ago, a young girl in my extended family began hooking and her parents tried everything to get her to come home. Had anything happened to her pimp, I have no doubt that her father would have been picked up, too, because he was a hunter and had guns at home and because he and his wife had tracked her all over the western states.

It's very, very hard to watch your child being manipulated by a bad person. I've been there and it took alot of self control not to act on my emotions. Then again, they may have saved their child and I haven't had contact with mine since she was 17......

Anyway, sad situation for all involved. The only one I do not feel badly for is the predator.

One of mine went out there and by some miracle, came back and straightened up but we've never really been close again. I finally had to just let go of it. It's not an easy thing to do or something that you only do once.

Granted they still need to go on trial because we can't tolerate this kind of thing.

But if I were on the jury I wouldn't be too harsh in the sentencing.
