The Trump Candidacy. Now it's Personal.

Donald Trump came to my home region of New England Thursday to cast aspersions on my wife. He spoke in Portland Maine (I'm from Massachusetts). He not only condemned undocumented immigrants, but those who have come here legally. He singled out a number of countries that current legal immigrants came from for extra scrutiny including my wife's country of origin, the Philippines.

My 61 year old wife is from the Philippines and we've been married over 13 years (I'm 63). My wife is one of the most wonderful and smartest people I know. She is working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (and a member of SEIU).

My wife was protesting in the streets of the Philippines against their dictator, Ferdinand Marcos decades ago. She worked for and voted for Corazon Aquino and was proud to cast her vote for the first female President of the Philippines. My wife, Corazon is now a full citizen of the United States and will be voting in her first presidential election here. She will be among the very few Americans who cast her vote for the first woman President of the Philippines and her vote for the first woman President of the United States.

<snip>At a rally in Portland, Maine, on Thursday afternoon, Trump provided a lengthy explanation of why he thinks the United States needs to be skeptical of immigrants from many countries, even if they follow the legal process. Reading from notes, Trump listed nearly a dozen examples of immigrants, refugees or students who came to the United States legally -- often applying for and receiving citizenship -- and then plotted to kill Americans, sometimes successfully doing so. The countries that he referenced in these examples: Somalia, Morocco, Uzbekistan (he asked the crowd where it was located), Syria, Afghanistan, the Philippines, Iraq, Pakistan and Yemen (which he pronounced "yay-men&quot . Trump's staff has yet to confirm if there are countries from which the nominee wants to limit immigration.<snip>

Release the tax returns too!

Melania seems to have used marriage for green card visa in 2000 or 2001, a few years before she married Trump.

Did she claim a degree on her immigration form like she did on her web site? She only had one year of college.

couple.

That is it with trump. he doesn't care who you are, you just don't deserve to be on the planet with him. Full stop. There are plenty of republican's who have marriages just like yours. They fail to make the connection that he is talking about them. Or they do and are willing to let it pass, just so long as a liberal is hurt in the process. They have an uncanny ability to think they are exempt from republican policies.

I heard just a bite on the radio while I was driving to work. I thought he was talking about Minneapolis, which has the largest Somali population in the country. I've heard him say a lot of racist stuff, but when he talked about how the area had been ruined because of Somalis, it felt personal.

He disrespects your your family, my community, our veterans, damn near everyone. He's a truly awful man.

He spews hate toward immigrants because he wants to be the Giulliani of Presidential politics. He will sweep those immigrants right off the streets.

He is a complete stu-nard.

when he first started equating Mexican immigrants as rapists. My wife is second generation American, her grandmother having been born in Mexico and emigrating to the US as a child. I know anti-immigrant feelings have always been a part of our fabric, but since replacing E Plurinus Unun with In God We Trust it seems, to me, that is has grown to what is is now. Your wife, and people like her, make us what we are as a country. Trump must be crushed. K&R.

She had moved here from California. I am not sure if her parents immigrated from the Philippines or she did; but, judging from her vehicle, places she enjoyed vacationing and her career, she had done well for herself. She still had an accent. Even so, I never asked about or considered her immigration status. We talked about wildlife in the park and ways to eat mangos. She gave me the first mango, I had ever eaten. Is the fruit native to the Philippines? Do you think China will continue protecting poachers that destroy reefs near the Philippines?

China must respect Filipino fishermen’s right to livelihood after Hague ruling

By Lorenz Niel Santos on August 5, 2016 in Asia Times News & Features, China, Southeast Asia

China is still preventing Filipinos from fishing in the Scarborough Shoal despite a historic ruling by an international tribunal favoring them. Adding to their woes comes a new ruling by China’s Supreme Court which says people caught illegally fishing in “Chinese” waters could be jailed for up to a year. While being concerned about the livelihood of fishermen, the Philippine government and legal experts want them to exercise restraint and stay away from the disputed waters until the issue is sorted out with China through bilateral talks.
http://atimes.com/2016/08/china-must-respect-filipino-fishermens-right-to-livelihood-after-hague-ruling/

It looks like China is planning to force Filipinos, who depend of fishing for basic subsistence, to starve to death. Coincidentally, "Scarborough" was the maiden name of my first wife.
