NC to become All Fracked Up - House approves gas drilling in NC

http://www.wral.com/news/state/nccapitol/story/11206082/

"RALEIGH, N.C. — After a three-hour debate Thursday, the state House approved legalizing natural gas exploration in North Carolina, including a drilling method that environmentalists say could contaminate water supplies.

The House voted 66-43 for Senate Bill 820, which directs several state agencies to devise drilling regulations by October 2014, when the first permits could be offered.

The bill returns to the Senate, which approved it last week mainly along party lines, for a final vote to concur with changes adopted by the House before heading to Gov. Beverly Perdue's desk.

Sen. Robert Rucho, R-Mecklenburg, who sponsored the bill, has said he is on board with the House changes, and the measure is expected to easily win final approval."

with the infiltration from Dems from NJ who've taken over School Board and others who go against the NC Progressives ...so different from the State of SC which like Florida...is the land of the CRAZIES.

It's quite interesting. And that the push back we had in 2004 from the Dean/Kucinich Activists have been resoundingly TRASHED!

I don't recognize this state from the time I moved here. It seems the SC Filth Repugs have morphed over the border.

But, then....shouldn't Obama's Dem Victory have done something about this?

Or, is it NC's dependency on the Military for funding with our NEW WARS that weren't going on when I moved here....or maybe with you?

I look on my growing Enviro-Friendly Yard and it's beautiful this time of year.

We have had two families of Blue Birds leave our Bird House that's nestled in amongst the Blue Hydrangias and our newly added Carolina Native Myrtles...Carolina Beauty and a bush hydrangia allow the birds to hide from the proud spotted hawks who also patrol our yard ...now that it's bird an species friendly.

What a change and how sad it is to see. I love and miss all those of us who worked to get Verfied Paper Ballots the Norm for NC...although we had to cave and alllow "OptiScan"..

We worked hard and had support in 2003-2005.

ACLU...had an Award Dinner to honor our group and leader (who was a former DU'er) and it's a proud moment in my life and the activists of that time. We had a reuinion to celebrate year before last at good food restaurant in downtown Raleigh...(the Capitol)

It's not the same any more... Maybe you are later to here...or find it different in your corner of the NC Woods.

moved here from PA - friends gasped when I told them I was coming here ("to the land of Jesse Helms" they said!). We didn't care for the schools (kids ended up in the magnet program, which was an improvement) - but always felt a few things that were off for us - the religious and social hypocrisy, overt - and covert - racism - but we found our own little piece of peace in our North Raleigh home and yard. The school board crap was awful - Tedesco and Margiotta? good grief!

We love the nature part of NC - the mountains, the outer banks - our yard with its big garden of veggies, flowers, the birds. We are a tiny blue dot surrounded by red. My truck covered with DU and Obama stickers drives my neighbors crazy.

But the fracking thing is another thing that will stick in our craws - we will likely downsize in 5 years or so. Vermont or Oregon or somewhere more progressive has a nice ring - but it may be hard to leave the things here we love. Good thing we've got time to ponder about it.

That stinks, in every possible way. I hope GA does not follow suit.

Check out the Pennsylvania forum for more on fracking. It is the work of the "devil" and supported and encouraged by our demon governor. His latest scheme is giving over a billion in tax breaks to attract a "cracker" plant to Beaver Co. while slashing education and social programs.

Good luck to you.

I always thought my home state was fairly sane; my, how quickly that has changed.

Good luck to you, too!

which runs through Durham between Raleigh and Chapel Hill on down thru Sanford. It is an area where water supply is very delicate--in 2007 the city of Durham was down to only 30 days left. The reservoirs dried up.

Are the people of this area really going to allow this?
