Just had a thought on how we DUers could get our ideas out there more widely....involves Twitter

So I was just playing around on Twitter, in one of the hashtags (earlier today some really sarcastic zingers went out there under the #iamarepublicanbecause hashtag (that one is on the greatest page here).

Then I thought about how we've always done the "DU this poll" thing - which really isn't all that effective, though it probably makes us all feel good to do it.

Then I saw a post describing how the Michigan Vagina ridiculousness led to a firestorm of criticism on Twitter and elsewhere....

So I came to ponder how much more powerful messages that DUers wanted to really get out there, but want to escape the DU world (because we are all preaching to the choir) - if we could alert when we wanted to get something out there and really support it, use a hashtag label - we could get it trending - no matter how you feel about Twitter (and I go back and forth on its value), many left wing bloggers and pols read it - and those of us with different followers around the left wing world could make the echo and influence even greater.

That's my minor idea - thinking how we can get our views and messages out there more effectively and beyond the DU walls, and ensure some of the great ideas reach those who should be influenced....

Kind of like a new way to think of DU activism.......thoughts? (and you can fire away...I can take it!)

1. So, you're proposing a separate "alert" to solicit twitters?

I twitter quite a bit of what I read here anyway, either the DU post or sources.

So, you're saying lets solicit twitters and then feedback when done?

One problem with this will be that any of the opposition that IS monitoring this board can do a counter twitter assault on our twitters.

2. kind of a reinforcement to get a hashtag full of ideas to get really active...

good question - haven't thought it all through yet, just seems that there is a venue there for effective use for better activism if we can just work out the process. Thanks for the response! I am not a very experienced Twitter user, so also expecting other ideas (as well as reasons why it may not work all that well - keeping an open mind)

7. I think this is a useful discussion! I'm not a very sophisticated twitterer either, but I recognize

the serious usefulness of extending the discourse beyond DU.

I would like to think of a practical way to acquire and reinforce twitter participation, without being so revealing that those who are against our efforts can counter us.

How bout we also use a specific hashtag when we post anything from DU (#du) so that twitterers can search for anything du related?

Mostly though it's just used by people who have been tombstoned from DU but still feel some kind of kinship, I guess.

8. I set up an unofficial DU Twitter feed a long time ago

when Creekdog was asking if we could have an official one for down times.

I never did anything with it. But, that could be one way to aggregate our work. Use that one or a new one and ask DUers to follow it for action items, etc.

10. Did you see my Vagina tweet earlier today?

I sent it from the grocery store.

I saw your tweets.

I want to start something on all this money the 1% is spending to elect the presidential figurehead, Romney. John McCain today said Adelson's money is off-shore mafia money & organized crime via Chinia - prostitution, etc.

I imagine the MSM won't cover it, & I also imagine there's a fear factor. Organized crime has a lot of money to silence the media out. But they can't silence an entire populace of not only Americans but citizens of the world as well.

Adelson has said he's willing to spend 100 million more - why? What does he get, & even more importantly, those that are in his shadows - who are they and what do they get? How much foreign input is involved here? Do they plan on taking us down with the GOP's help, along with fearful, non-thinking, yet sincere, Ameridans?

There's a lot of smart people on DU that could come up with awesome ideas. I don't want this idea to die. It's too important. No one will fight this for us. And, not to fight it is wrong. People who fall for all this crap need to come out & stop this run toward fascism.
