Doing Govt Like A Business Code For RETURN To Patronage & Cronyism.
The GOP touts "doing government like a business". What they intend is to go back to patronage, corruption, cronyism, nepotism etc before the advent of civil service systems. That means that public employees are paid based on their political affiliations and not their ability to do a job. That means work at the will of whatever political entity decides or wins office.
Such an environment means that government changes hands entirely with every election. If your guy is out then you lose your job and his friend, buddy, crony or relative gets the job regardless of experience. It also means work at will and pay based on political affiliation. You get paid more if you are in the right party.
That situation means regulatory agencies enforce laws based on party philosophy and not public good. Contracts are awarded based on who can buy them. So if a corporation wants to poison millions of people and has the money they can do it. Regulators will not only look the other way and will suppress any opposition.
Government run like a business is he ultimate "pay for play" scheme. And such was government before the New Deal.
