9. i'm guessing it is a photo op. With continuous mode shooting, photographers call it spray and pray.

Continuous mode in the digital era is 6 to 14 frames per second with the DSLRs. In the days of film it was called motor drive mode because a motor advanced the film (and stopped it frame by frame) at about 3 frames per second.

It's called "spray and pray" because the photographer has to cull through hundreds of photos at the end of the day to pick out the few (say a half dozen) that have the peak expression or action desired and send those on to the editors. They can only pray that they caught the peak because they are shooting so fast and often that they don't know what they have until much later.

The pool aspect is because the rooms can't accommodate the hordes of hundreds of photographers from many nations and media companies around the world, so some are selected to be in a group (the pool) and their photos are pooled together and shared with the other media.
