".... researchers found that the strength of unions' effect on nonunion wages has decreased over time, suggesting the nonunion ripple effects of union efforts are bigger when union membership is higher.

But perhaps the most striking observation the researchers made is this: Previous research has teased out how damaging globalized trade has been to the wages of non-college-educated workers. But even globalization doesn't measure up to the loss of unions. "The erosion of unions on the wages of both union and nonunion workers is likely the largest single factor underlying wage stagnation and wage inequality," the study concluded.

Republicans crusade against unions, be they teacher's or any others, have its roots in the evil nature of capitalism - profit at any cost. Now we see the corrosive nature of that in wage stagnation and inequality of wealth distribution. It is a creeping tide that only lifts a few.

but OT also. I worked at a public school district which wanted to mandate that all Paras work an extra 2 hours a day, and just get Comp Time off, which by the end of school year would be impossible to give that much time off. As Hourly Employees those extra 10 hours a week were OT wages. A Union Para employee called the Union about this. Union went to the school district and complained. They dropped their policy. All Paras, Union Members or not, benefited. The school district did this so they would not have to pay part timers. Something for nothing. Union said you pay, one way or another.
