PHUKET - The Anti-Money Laundering Office (Amlo) has began auctioning off assets seized from an illegal Chinese tour operator, with boats and buses fetching a total of 108 million baht in the first two days.
A total of 151 items with a combined starting price of 161 million baht were to be sold off from Tuesday to Thursday. At the end of the second day, 35 boats and 44 coaches had fetched a total 108 million baht.
The assets were seized from Tranlee Travel Co, whose two major shareholders and executives, listed as Veerachai Khamphaipraphankul and Kritchakorn Rungmongkholnam, were foreign nationals using Thai names.
The companys business network was busted in July and its assets confiscated under the money laundering law.
Authorities said 17 companies formed Tranlees network, operating tourism-related businesses such as hotels, tour buses, ferries, restaurants and souvenir shops.
