Thanks Obama! Uninsured Rate Drops Below 9 Percent For First Time In History

by Tommy Christopher | 11:33 am, September 7th, 2016

According to new data from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the rate of uninsured Americans has dropped to yet another historic low, falling below nine percent for the first time since they began tracking the figure. From the CDC’s National Health Interview Survey:

In the first 3 months of 2016, 27.3 million (8.6%) persons of all ages were uninsured at the time of interview—1.3 million fewer persons than in 2015 and 21.3 million fewer persons than in 2010.

The Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, was signed into law in 2010, and went into full effect in 2013 after experiencing massive technical issues in the initial enrollment phase. Even prior to the opening of the health insurance exchanges, however, there were provisions of the Affordable Care Act that gave people access to health insurance that they otherwise would not have had.

The CDC report also showed a dramatic increase in the percentage of Americans enrolled in High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP) since the signing of the Affordable Care Act, which demonstrates the need for further efforts to control the cost of health care.

(which remains the healthcare provider of last resort for thousands of poor people) in chicago were majority insured people. this is really a game changer.

part of how that happened is that cook county got a waiver to start changes 1 year early. they formed an hmo that is free to those of low income.

this not only has public health ramifications, but criminal justice as well. part of the impetus was to get those in cook county jail for lack of mental health care out of jail and into care. more people are being taken to er's instead of jail.

this all effects so much more than just getting your broken leg set.
