. . . Obama and Clinton have been absenteven as resistance has grown to include Indigenous people from across the U.S. and activists face increasingly severe crackdowns.
Nothing new in this article, just a reiteration of some constructive criticism: stop ignoring this.

(40,366 posts)"Back in February, the Clinton camp posted to its website the candidate's policy platform for Native Americans. In it, Clinton declares that she "will continue to stand for Tribal sovereignty and in support of Tribal resources and sacred sites."
Earlier this year, Clinton stumped in Indian country, vying for votes. But if she truly supports Native American sovereignty, and if she is sincere about honoring the treaties and protecting sacred sites, then she will take a stand against this ominous pipeline as well as the brazen violation of our treaty rights."
Obama in 2014,
"I know that throughout history, the United States often didn't give the nation-to-nation relationship the respect that it deserved," Obama said. "So I promised when I ran to be a president who'd change that a president who honors our sacred trust, and who respects your sovereignty."

It's been awhile since I've seen an OP here to KnR. This 'cowboy' stands in support with those who are outraged that Native American sacred grounds are being desecrated by profiteers. Where indeed are 'our' political leaders?

Bernie Sanders is the only Congress person to similarly call for the pipeline construction to stop.
