The New York Daily News reports that 32-year-old Emirjeta Xhelili yelled Islamophobic slurs at two Muslim women who were out on a walk with their babies near her Brooklyn home.
Get the f*ck out of here, the woman yelled, according to prosecutors. Get the f*ck out of America, b*tches This is America you shouldnt be different from us.
She punched the two women in their faces and tried ripping their hijabs off their heads. Prosecutors even alleged that she tried knocking over the stroller that contained a 15-month-old baby.
The Daily News notes that she has several social media posts in which she cheers on Donald Trumps candidacy and portrays him as some sort of mythical savior.
America is the ark of Noah, one reads. Trumps gonna win.

Even as police were arresting her, she was screaming hate at the women.
Her facebook is filled with hate messages and violent threats mainly towards Muslims and blacks.

(1 post)I've just come across the news about the attack by this lunatic, Emirjeta Xhelili and then also read your question. so I wanted to add my two-cents. IMHO, it is Albanian although I am not Albanian. I have known famous professional soccer players from Albania/Kosova whose last name starts with Xh and similar sounds. The irony is that both the first and last names are actually Arabic in origin. Remember, the Balkan region was ruled by the mighty Ottoman Islamic-Turkish Empire for five-six centuries until the World War I. Even though Albania became a hardcore Socialist Marxist nation under the tight control of Russia; and as a result, many Albanians left Islam, they still used words, expressions, names that are originated from the Ottoman Turkish (Arabic and Farsi or Persian were also official languages of the Ottoman Empire).
Emirjeta is pronounced as A-meer-jeta (A is probably silent as in Merzata). Mirzat (in Turkish) or Merzat (in Farsi/Urdu/Afghani) for boys meaning a notable son like lord, prince, who comes from an elite or privileged family. When it is a girl, then it is Merzata, you would add "a" at the end like in Spanish (i.e. Valentino for boys, Valentina for girls). Emir (pronounced emir of Emirates) is a ruler of a place. In other words, a girl who belongs to a ruler family.
Xhelili (Za-lee-lee) which originated from Celil in Turkish but it is Arabic in origin (pronounced as Jaleel). it is one of the attributes of God, which is "almighty" which also means great, immense, mortal etc.

(50,986 posts)I'd like it if her conduct was condemned in a court of law -- in addition to the consequences of flinging hateful, ethnically bigoted remarks to other human beings.
And I'd like it if her preferred presidential candidate lost in a landslide election.

(59 posts)I do agree that her life must have something ugly in her past to ignite that level of hatred. But I think prison time, lengthy or not would do nothing to heal that. Probably make it worse. I think you are much closer to the mark with the suggestion of anger management and community service. At 32 she seems fairly young for a Trump voter. There might still be hope for her.
This seems like a good case for Restorative Justice (No links handy - Google it. It's something we should be working for in our Justice system generally) Specifically, her community service should bring her into close contact with muslims (supervised, at least initially) Try and get her to see the humanity in the people she so hates.
If she is originally from Albania, she would have been a minority in a majority Muslim country where there has been bad blood between the two communities for 500+ years. She is just an echo of the hatreds that tore Yugoslavia apart. The countries in that region don't need diplomacy so much as therapy.
I don't think she needs punishment. Just healing and reconciliation. Maybe that's what our whole country needs.

(37 posts)"Emirjeta Xhelili" sounds Albanian. More than half of Albania is Muslim. Of course bigots exists in every country and culture, but it would make her Islamophobia more surprising if she were originally from there.
