What about Dump? I guess I never thought about the need for protection from bullets. ( naive, I know) Man, that is a sad reflection on the state of this country and the potential of an unhinged lunatic doing something crazy.

(135,425 posts)If Drumpf is smart, he should wear the tight weave tee shirts they make, at the least. They'll stop most bullets.
There is a company in Colombia that makes excellent, high fashion ballistic clothing. The fabric is not thick but it can get hot.
Since Trump left early as well, I think the heat got to a lot of people.

(1,907 posts)Which appear to be some kind of armor. I'm pretty sure they use a range of bullet resistant clothing for different venues. Some they may be able to get by with out any though. If they can search or screen people they wouldn't have to worry about it as much. Some thing as open as today's event. I'm pretty sure they would have higher rated stuff on. Most of the time it is probably just layers of material like kevlar. That is still hot and doesn't breath. For higher risk venues they could even use something like the dragon scales stuff which allows more movement. One option would be something like the Caballero stuff. You can google bulletproof high fashion for more info.

(11,949 posts)Kevlar does not protect against high velocity rifle bullets that even common, single shot deer rifles fire. That take plate inserts which even I, a 50 year old health male would have a hard time walking around in all day.
That is why the SS seems paranoid.

(6,324 posts)They have probably done a risk analysis and have her wearing some IIIA Kevlar that will stop most handgun rounds. With her working crowds someone getting a handgun close would be a real concern.
Stopping a rifle round requires a hard plate of usually either steel (heavier) or ceramic (thicker but lighter) or some of the newest advances that are polymer.
There is no way she is wearing those, it would be obvious. Very obvious on her smaller frame.
And even those don't stop all rifle rounds, so there is little reason to bother with that much discomfort when many simple hunting rifles will defeat them- 22-250 and 243 with the prompt loads will penetrate even rifle rated body armor that was designed around stopping common military rounds and not super high velocity commercial hunting rounds.

(58,785 posts)Whereas Kevlar worn sometimes but not always might explain why, to me, she looks so "padded" sometimes and trimmer others. This is something I noticed without even wondering (duh!) if she could have some kind of protective gear on.
Thanks for the explanation, Lee-Lee.
