Adblock Plus is launching a new service that... uh, puts more ads on your screen.

The marketplace is a extension of the Acceptable Ads program that Adblock Plus has been running since 2011.
Since then, the ad blocker has defaulted to “whitelisting” approved ads, so that they show up even when users have the blocker turned on.

The ad marketplace is launching in beta today and is supposed to launch in full later this year.

Which is why I do not use Adblock any longer....the name is so misleading.

This is the Norton that goes with Comcast internet.

As such I've never tried adblocker. Is this advice correct?

That's a pretty specific question. I have never had problems using ad blockers with ANY malware protection, but who knows what the corporate asshats at Comcast or Norton may have come up with. The simple answer is to try it. If it doesn't work, get rid of the extension.

It works fine, but I find that every so often I need to reinstall it and then it's fine again.

My problems with ads are places that use popups that cover the screen, launch video or audio or are prone to malware infections.

I get that severs and bandwidth aren't free, much less the costs of generating content. Unfortunately too many websites use crappy ads.

Static advertising, equivalent to what you see in a magazine or newspaper, doesn't bother me much so long as it isn't taking up most of the screen.

It's the pop-ups, animated stuff, and most especially audio interruptions that irritate me. That's also why I don't watch television.

I'm in the habit of simply blacklisting sites that serve irritating advertising. I don't use any ad-blocking software.

I regularly visit a few ad-supported sites that do not have obnoxious advertising.

Hasn't sold out, runs much faster and more efficiently, the blocklists are easier to manage. Just better in all ways.

At least until I was signed in to DU.

A couple of weeks ago, that stopped. I wonder why.

Whether you use ABP or uBlock Origin, you'll want to do that every few days.

Especially these days - some sites have nag windows for ad-blocking users, some sites (now Facebook...) try to block entirely, some keep changing their ad code to try to weasel around the filters.

Update frequently.

AdGuard and Ghostery work very well so far for me.
Tho sometimes I have to disarm Ghostery to let a video work.
OTOH, it keeps videos from loading and playing automatically.
