I Simply Could Not "Pledge Allegiance" Or Stand For Anthem Under Trump.

God forbid that Trump should win. I simply could no longer pledge or support were Trump president. And I certainly would not not it with a Trump voter. It would be just too much because we would have validated ourselves as a pariah country. We would have validated our racism, bigotry, misogyny and homophobia.

And lord knows I would not defend this country. This election campaign just leaves a sick feeling.

Nowhere do we pledge allegiance to the President. Nor do we take an oath to protect them. tonyt53 Sep 2016 #1

We pledge allegiance to the flag (country) and take an oath to protect the US Constitution. The rest of it rests squarely upon the backs, and minds, of the voters.

Nationalism does not serve the interests of a sophisticated, technologically advanced civilization. Our current situation is precarious and requires global cooperation, not deepening divisions.

Standing for the anthem shows national pride ... I would feel no pride under trump.

The flag and the anthem would represent the worst of us under Trump. It would become a symbol the Trump & RW would use to advance their agenda here and abroad.

And share your sentiments.

I would not allow my offspring to to drafted into the military to fight a war Trump started. And he will start wars, of this I have no doubt. (After all, he still wants to know why we can't use nuclear weapons if we have them.) Et al. . .

At the very least, I'd be extremely conflicted come Tax Time, because I WILL NOT give money to Donald Trump and if he's president, our taxes will become his money! This can't be allowed! We all know full well what happens to a donor's money once it's in Trump's grubby little hands. He'll use it to buy portraits of Himself! Or worse!

I refuse to finance Donald Trump's wars. I refuse to finance Donald Trumps social, cultural and legislative priorities, whatever they are, because I'm certain they won't be mine. I refuse to finance the building of walls, the deportation of millions of people, and the parade of tourist and immigration bans based on Trump's racist "whim of the week (or weak)".

No, you are right, a the prospect of a Trump presidency is becoming a nightmare for all decent people in America. I just hope and pray we outnumber the "deplorables" on election day.

And we currently have many national athletes refusing to stand for the anthem under Obama... so... welcome to the party?
