The role of supposed Trump observers will be to stop anyone who would vote democratic from voting actually. It may not happen but there may be mayhem at the polls. By even saying you want "observers" (tormentors) at the polls will scare some voters from even showing up.
Besides we do not know what other GOP mischief is being planned. And in some red states and even blue states with a GOP Secretary of state or county clerk voting apparatus will be in short supply in Democratic areas. And there will be mysterious lines in other parts of the country.
Until we open registration and voting and abolish these egregious ID laws elections will become more and more dicey. ANYONE who schemes to stop a person's right to vote should be jailed. That includes both parties. However Democrats have always tried to expand the vote while the GOP has always tried to make sure only Republicans have easy access to voting. We know when there are more voters the GOP usually loses because of its 1st century ideas.

(11,617 posts)The reason right wingers are voting for Trump is because they are scared of anyone not like them. Minorities should be highly visible and challenge the right winger's voting rights. Many of those cowards would probably not even vote rather than have to be challenged by someone who doesn't look exactly like them.

While poll watchers would be able to document abuses, and might be able to get law enforcement engaged to quell such abuses, and should be done, I think the emphasis should be on getting people to the polls, and soliciting volunteers to drive people to the polls who don't have transportation

(145,111 posts)Back in 1982, the RNC engaged in voter intimidation tactics and were sued by the DNC. A consent decree has been kept in effect since 1982 and will be invoked http://electionlawblog.org/?p=85289
(e) refrain from undertaking any ballot security activities in polling places or election districts where the racial or ethnic composition of such districts is a factor in the decision to conduct, or the actual conduct of, such activities there and where a purpose or significant effect of such activities is to deter qualified voters from voting; and the conduct of such activities disproportionately in or directed toward districts that have a substantial proportion of racial or ethnic populations shall be considered relevant evidence of the existence of such a factor and purpose
If this activity violates the consent decree, the DNC can ask for it to be extended for up to another 8 years.
