I had originally posted this in the Lounge, but it was suggested to me that it might be better to post this here, so here goes...

Hello fellow DUers. I'm not sure how to post this, because I've always been a proud man. I've supported myself and my family, on my own, since I was a late teen. Posting this here is a hard thing for me to do. But at this time and place in my life, it is one of limited number of options I have available.

This is a link to my personal Gofundme account. I am a 49 y/o former single father of two, grandfather to 1 (and one in the way!), navy vet and a pretty decent guy according to most. I have spent the last two years fighting with the VA to fix my hips, which are bone on bone and deginerated to the point of the ball joints being flattened.

I can not walk more than 20-30 ft without agony, was recently fired from my job of 8+ years because of it (got to love Florida's right to work laws!) and have burned up any assets I had prior to being let go. I am penniless and weeks away from being homeless. My family can not help me, and my children are struggling themselves.

DU has been a home for me since a few days after Bush's 1st inauguration. I know with posts like this come skepticism, as there have been some sketchy things here in the past. Please read my link, see my story, and feel free to ask me anything regarding my story. I am an open book...

I'm looking only for the basic expenses I have...utilities/rent. I have EBT to cover food. I have a case going through VA, and I'm set to have my interview with SS in a few weeks, but these take time...lots of time I'm learning...there are no other means locally that I haven't already tried or used.

Again, please read my story, and if you have any questions by all means ask on this thread or message me. Thanks...

I am always grateful that I've not found myself there. I am sure you'll get support from DUers who can help, but have you tried local churches? There are some churches that are very helpful to people in this situation, especially to our veterans. Just a thought. I hope you get things straightened out soon and get back on your feet. Any of us are one catastrophe away from being in your shoes.

...as far as food goes, but none of them in my area are able to help out as far as rent and utilities go. The county human services will help but only once a year, and I used that months ago. Now it's just a waiting game with social security and the VA. The wheels to get corrective surgery are rolling now as far as VA goes, but it'll be a while before I know anything about my disability claim with them. My 2nd SS interview is in three weeks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it'll go smoothly, but I have talked to a lawyer who can help me after the interview is completed. I've come to the realization that it's a game of attrition! Lol...had I realized how long th waiting game was I'd have started this a year ago.

Thanks for your response btw...even just knowing someone cares and is giving you some thought helps.
