On the face of it, we would hope that a huge majority of Americans would reject the division and hatred sown by Mr Trump. But, polls show that is not the case.
There is no sense of remorse or guilt in supporting Mr Trump. Instead of T-shirts that say, "We are Deplorables" in proud block letters, perhaps they would be just as happy with T-shirts that say "We are Rapists" or "We are Sexists"? Do they even understand what the word means? How could anyone with a shred of decency be proud of such a vile name?
Because they don't really care about the country? Because they think of it like a silly game with no consequences? They believe our country is so strong that we can withstand anything? They do not see the damage they have done to our country over the last few years. They are content in the belief that "they both do it".
But, that is not the case. It is the Republicans that have destroyed our tax base, driven our country into monstrous deficits and debt with their giveaways to the wealthy, that have started wars that we cannot extricate ourselves from, that have ignored the will of their voters, that have blocked everything in the cause of cutting "big government".
The truth of the matter is that these Trump supporters are detached from the facts and reality itself. They block out any information that might question their support for such a vulgar and dangerous nominee as Donald Trump. They say, "At least, he is not Hillary Clinton!"
They have swallowed the media portrayal of polls that show she is less "honest and trustworthy" than Donald Trump. The truth of the matter is that Donald Trump is a criminal that has escaped punishment by bribing and paying off all that might criticize him. His Foundation is a criminal enterprise. He is a threat to our national security. He is not a rational or responsible person. Compared to Hillary Clinton, he is a mad man.

(60,334 posts)Trump voters have always been with us, they have always been what they are, deplorable. They will be here after the election either way.
Trump could do irreparable damage to this country, us and the world. We must do everything we can to prevent Trump form getting power of the Presidency. For the sake of humanity we must never allow a person such as Trump to hold the highest office in the land.

(3,666 posts)Trump has shown decisively that there is a market -- and a considerable one at that -- for xenophobic, nationalistic, populism of the right. Win or lose, we may be stuck with a European style right wing populist party for the foreseeable future. A better politician than Trump will come along to exploit what Trump has given birth to -- whether or not Trump is defeated.
