Mike Pence, Donald Trump's running mate in this year's presidential election, published articles urging employers not to hire gay employees while he was head of the Indiana Policy Review in the 1990s.
One such article published during Pence's tenure reads: "Homosexuals are not as a group able-bodied. They are known to carry extremely high rates of disease brought on because of the nature of their sexual practices and the promiscuity which is a hallmark of their lifestyle."
Pence also argues in the piece that homosexuality is a "pathological condition."
Pence has also fallen under scrutiny for publishing work in 1993 criticizing gay military members.
Last year as governor of Indiana, he signed the "Religious Freedom Restoration Act," which allows companies to discriminate against LGBT employees and customers based on firmly held religious beliefs. And he's proposed cutting funding for HIV treatment and using the money for "gay cure" therapy.

(670 posts)gay men should be kept on public assistance to pay for their "diseases" and "lifestyle", since having them jobless and without employer-provided insurance would mean the public would have to pay for their care.
Why does Mike Pence want to have a huge new entitlement program only for gay men? Is Mike Pence FOR gay men?

What's the likelihood Pence was offered the same deal? I'd say strong. And he certainly sealed that notion when he stated his role model for the Vice Presidency was Cheney.
It's common knowledge Cheney was the most influential VP in history.
Anybody think Cheney wasn't running the country during the Bush years?
It seems real important to pay attention to Pence's record. He's really the one running for president. Trump's just the tasteless window dressing.

(53,936 posts)Even less surprising is the lack of interest in the overt homophobia from Pence. We are the "canary in the coalmine" for many things and all to often people are willing to lets us suffocate, perhaps only offering up the occasional "well, that's not right" type responses. Things like this barely register in the media, and even among those who claim to be interested in equal rights. I was angry at Bill Maher's description of our equality and rights as "boutique issues", but one only has to look at the 'concern' people have to see, he was right, at least in how people treat us and our rights.
